PASSION. ELEGANCE. SOUL. Laura Lawton completes and brings together the incredible Jazz Quintet. Performing Sat 5th Sept @ Melford House. Mayfield. Tickets available via link in bio.

Laura was classically trained at The Guildhall School of Music in London and focussed her earlier years on opera, before switching over permanently to indulge her deep passion for singing jazz.

With her very distinctive tone, Laura enjoys performing a wonderful mix of jazz standards recorded over the years by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Peggy Lee, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Anita O’Day, Etta James, Nina Simone and many more . Anything from ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, to latin jazz including ‘Girl From Ipanema’ and ‘Desafinado’, plus some beautiful, less widely recognised, jazz pieces like ‘I Fall In Love Too Easily’, ‘It Could Happen To You’, ‘I’m a Fool To Want You’ and ‘What’s New’.

She also has the privilege of working with some extremely talented jazz musicians including Leon Greening, Danny Moss Jnr, Sam Dunn, Charlie Pyne, Roger Lewin and Start Jackaman. They join her across the South East and London at the many hotels, wineries, bars, restaurants, jazz clubs, event venues (weddings, parties, corporate events etc…) and private venues, where she performs.

James Sunney - Living in Tunbridge Wells, James started his music career while studying at Tswane University of Technology

After graduating James went on to perform alongside some of South Africa’s most celebrated artists.

James was a regular fixture as a double bassist in various jazz ensembles in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria South Africa, where he got the opportunity to explore his passion for jazz and improvisation.

Meet the Quintet. Performing as part of our Jazz Speakeasy. Melford House. Mayfield. Sat 5th Sept. DAN FOSTER - Saxophonist. From Newcastle to the Royal Academy of Music, Dan Foster’s journey has been shaped by a lifelong love of jazz.

Inspired by legends like Charlie Parker, Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley, Dan has gone on to perform, teach and tour extensively — from BBC Radio to major concert stages and intimate jazz venues.

Founder of Kairos Ensemble, Dan’s latest album Here Is Love is now receiving significant radio airplay. 🎶

Performing at Melford House, Mayfield on Saturday 5th September as part of the incredible Jazz Quintet in our 1920s themed ‘speakeasy’. STUART JACKAMAN:
Stuart plays finger style jazz guitar arrangements of tunes from the great American songbook through to pop tunes by the likes of the Beatles and Stevie Wonder. He is a regular across jazz clubs across the south east of England and is always in high demand either as a solo artist or as an accompanist. He has fronted his own jazz guitar trio for many years and is regularly asked to play at prestigious venues in London and the south east. Tickets £15. available via link in bio.

David Widdicombe has been playing drums since he was a teenager. He has performed in the Royal Festival Hall and Albert Hall. Initially trained as a piano technician, he has worked as a concert tuner with Steinway & Sons working with some of the greatest jazz pianists such as Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Julian Joseph and Jason Rebello. He now runs the piano restoration and service department for Steinway UK which gives him more time to play drums. He is a regular performer in venues across Kent and Sussex as well as being a member of award winning function band Groove 101.

Naomi Wood - Performing as part of Seasonal Poetics at Melford House in Mayfield. 26th June. (6.30pm for 7pm start)

Naomi is a spoken word performer and theatre maker, celebrating rebellion and reveling in rage whilst maintaining a healthy preoccupation with the eroticism of bird feeders.
Her solo spoken word show ‘Gobbess’ - which has toured the UK and internationally, with shows at Edinburgh Fringe, Glastonbury Festival and in Oslo, has been described as ‘Laugh-out-loud funny...pure magic...unmissable’. (Discover Brighton) and ‘An act of creative mastery’ (UCLAN)

Naomi has been published by Backlash Press and Ink, Sweat and Tears and was recently shortlisted for The Bournemouth Writing Prize as well as longlisted by Black Cat Poetry Press this year.
Her new show Monster tours the UK in 2026.

Debra Watson | Poet & Performer - performing as part of Seasonal Poetics at Melford House on Friday 26th June.

Debra Watson is an award-winning poet and immersive artist based in Hastings, UK, known for her atmospheric and “suprasensual” approach to the spoken word. As the founder collectives The Poetry Brothel Hastings and The Crimson Word, she specialises in 1-2-1 performance and literary cabaret that blurs the line between performer and participant.
A published author (Laments & Incantations) and academic contributor to Spoken Word in the UK (Routledge), Debra’s work—often delivered through her captivating alter-ego Bibi Synthe—explores intimacy, ecology, and the power of the archetype. From international film festival awards to intimate site-specific installations, hers is an evocative voice in contemporary performance poetry.

What an incredible day on Saturday! Could not have asked for a better start to the bank holiday weekend. Huge thank you to everybody who came and made our fiesta so much fun! Incredible paella and salads from Rice&Ember and awesome entertainment from the Mariachi King. A sellout event which worked our frozen margarita maker to its max!! Mayfield we love you!
