MarpleFest Christmas Update

We wanted to share an important update about this year’s MarpleFest Christmas celebrations.

Unfortunately, due to a few unexpected challenges and a shortage of volunteers, we’re unable to host our traditional Christmas Lights Switch-On and Lantern Parade this year. These events take an incredible amount of planning, teamwork, and community spirit — and we simply don’t have the people power this time to deliver them to the standard Marple deserves.

But don’t worry — MarpleFest isn’t going anywhere.

We’re already planning to return in 2026 with new community events that will make full use of our wonderful festoon lights and celebrate everything that makes Marple special.

To make that happen, we’re looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team. Even a small contribution can make a big difference. We need help with:

• Logistics and organisation
• Admin and coordination
• Social media and communications
• Marshalling and safety support
• First aid and general event help

If you have enthusiasm, local pride, or a particular skill you think could help, we’d love to hear from you. Drop us a message, comment below, or email us — we’re keen to keep collaborating with fantastic local groups like Make It Marple and, of course, continue our unwavering support for the Marple Carnival.

We know it’s disappointing to miss Father Christmas and the Lantern Parade this year, but we’ll be back in the new year — refreshed, recharged, and ready to make Marple shine brighter than ever.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the Festoon Light Switch-on tomorrow. We just could not let the moment go unmarked; there are so many people to thank. Here's our Kay Crewdson with a special message.

‼️ Important announcement 📣
Marple fest have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our festoon light event this Saturday due to a poor weather forecast.
Heavy rain and wind is expected all afternoon and into the evening- it would therefore be unsafe. We are really sorry to have taken this course of action and hope to have something organised in the future.

After our very successful w**d tidy up on Market Street & Derby Way, we have decided to do another day !
Once again , along with Marple Civic society , we are looking for volunteers to assist us.

If you can help, weather permitting, we will be outside the Bulls Head on Market Street at 6 pm next Tuesday the 26th August.

We can supply rubbish bags, but please can you bring with you any gloves / w**ding tools, as necessary.

Marple Fest, Marple Civic Society, Make it Marple, Richard Daniels - centre manager plus some very willing volunteers and business owners have been busy w**ding, tidying and replanting the planters! I’m sure you will all agree it looks so much better! Huge thanks to all involved!
