I spend much of my working life as an EventProf solving problems.

Sometimes, the problems are entirely of my own making.

Regardless of the source of the problem, the answer rarely appears while staring at a laptop.

Give me a long walk, a decent view and a couple of hours with friends, away from notifications, and I can usually untangle whatever I'm stuck on 🥾

Sometimes stepping away long enough helps you think clearly.

So, go on. Touch grass!!

Annual strawberry production review 💼 🍓

Last year: approximately 2.5 strawberries.

This year: forecasted output of 5 strawberries.

That's a 100% increase year-on-year 📈

The shareholders are delighted and the board remains cautiously optimistic.

Expansion plans are under consideration.

Admittedly, my brother's alpaca farm is producing strawberries by the bucket load, while I'm celebrating individual pieces of fruit, but success should always be measured against your own benchmarks.

Looking forward to another year of strong growth 😅

Something I'm always trying to get better at is treating downtime with the same level of commitment as work.

It's surprisingly easy to protect a client meeting but much harder to protect time for yourself.

So I've been experimenting with keeping Fridays lighter where possible. Time for work admin, the gym, life admin, and occasionally remembering that work isn't supposed to fill every available hour.

I'm not claiming perfection, and there are still plenty of Fridays that end up becoming work days.

But building a business that works for your life is just as important as building a successful business.

While attending a meeting at the NEC recently, I looked down from an upper level and spotted something suspicious.

Two members of the production team - Douglas Holliday & Noah Winfield - quietly disappeared, and naturally, I followed their progress from a distance.

It turns out they were attempting to gain access to another exhibition so they could look at exhibition structures and print finishes.

Imagine sneaking into Glastonbury. But for print finishes. That level of enthusiasm is genuinely impressive 🤣

To be fair, this is exactly why they're brilliant at what they do. The rest of us see exhibition stands. Production managers see construction techniques, materials and opportunities to learn something new.

I'd like everyone to meet Byron. Byron is an alpaca. Byron has absolutely no respect for personal space.

I went to visit my brother's alpaca farm and somehow ended up being kissed by one of the residents.

I'm not entirely sure what alpaca etiquette is, but I'm fairly confident this means we're friends now.

This wasn't how I expected to spend my day – but it was nice time off from the grind!

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities 😍

When I recently got the chance to go back, I spent most of my time running between venues and meetings. Classic event professional behaviour!

The site visits were productive, but I had approximately four minutes to enjoy Barcelona itself.

Thankfully, that was just enough time for churros...

Which, in my opinion, should be considered an essential part of every successful site visit 😁

One of my favourite parts of events is backstage during the build 🛠️💻😍

This pic was from behind a HUUUUUUUGE LED wall I watched being installed.

It's an incredible combination of rigging, engineering, technology and a lot of very skilled people making it all work.

I know I'm supposed to be focusing on the event itself, but I could happily spend all my time geeking out over how people construct such big tech.

Anyone else fascinated by what goes on behind the scenes, or am I the only ?

On another point, where did the geek/nerd emoji go?
