Claddagh Association of Adult Irish Dance The Claddagh Association of Adult Irish Dance is a local dance group based at Our Lady of Grace Parish Hall, Prestwich M25 1AS

The class welcomes adults of any age and any level of ability including complete beginners. No special footwear is required at the beginning; soft flat shoes of any description are fine. Teaching is undertaken by many class members as we have many years of Irish dancing experience under our collective belts! Step dancing - this is what most people think of as the ‘Riverdance’ style of dancing. It

involves dances in both 'light' and 'heavy' shoes and includes dances such as the reel, the jig, the slip jig, the hornpipe etc. Fior Ceili - There are two types of Irish ceili dancing one is ‘set ceili’ and the other is 'fior ceili'. The Claddagh Association concentrates on fior ceili which is danced in light shoes and is more akin to step dancing as it draws on the same basic footwork. Members of the Claddagh Association are happy to give demonstrations at social events in order to promote the enjoyment of Irish dancing in a wider audience. We can offer demonstrations of any or a mixture of the dancing styles mentioned above. If required we can also include sections for audience participation where one of our members will ‘call’ the dances allowing people to participate so extending the enjoyment. Over the past two decades we have danced at numerous events - too many to list here but the following are some examples:
•Weddings
•Birthday and anniversary celebrations
•Association dinner dances
•Festivals
•Care venues such as nursing homes and establishments for health care and learning disability.
•Cultural events where overseas visitors are introduced to the art of Irish dancing. The main achievements of our group are its longevity and friendliness. We have been established for over 25 years and many of the members have been involved from the beginning. We are always refreshing the way we do things and all our members contribute to the great Claddagh atmosphere and ethos of Love, Loyalty and Friendship.

What a great evening at the Irish World Heritage Centre. Plenty of dancing, despite the heat and celebrations in the bar after with Lizzie and Laura on their recent success with their other dance class.
Amongst our 34 dancers, we were delighted to welcome Charlotte, Beth, Christina, Sean, Sorcha, Aimee and Courtney who have joined recently and also 3 ‘returners’…Catherine, Suzanne and Niccy . We were all impressed by your effort and positive and friendly attitude and look forward to seeing you soon.
No class next week so we’ll see you all again on 12 May.

Back at the Irish World Heritage Centre tonight. Fabulous evening as usual. Great to have so much space!

Fabulous memories created at the 30th anniversary celebration of The Claddagh Association of Adult Irish Dance.
A massive thank you to St Wilfred's ceili band who provided the brilliant music, the Irish World Heritage Centre for the venue and lovely buffet, Irish TV in Manchester and Kevin McMahon from the Manchester Irish Writers and George Lee and Laura Cashin who's contributions made it a fabulous night to remember.
Thank you Samantha Walkden for the fabulous posters revealing many of the highlights of our 30 years.
Thank you also to every member, past and present, for attending and making it such a memorable evening. It is a long time since I have seen so many people dancing Fior ceili together - brilliant.

Probably our first competition outfit , circa 2007. 😊💚

What a fabulous St Patrick's weekend! It began at Nazareth House Manchester, entertaining residents and their families on Saturday afternoon, then St Gabriel's Rochdale, with a parish ceil on Saturday evening.
Sunday the sun came out and following a lovely mass at the Irish World Heritage Centre it was dancing from Cheetham Hill to Deensgate in the parade, with lots of laughs along the way.
Monday was St Patrick's Day and a number of us attended the flag raising in Rochdale followed by a great sing along with Tony Downs from The Hometowners. Finally our own class at Our Lady of Grace on Monday evening. We needed a weeks rest, but no rest for the wicked.....now preparing for our 30th anniversary.
Lovely meeting Sarah and Deirdre from the Consulate General of Ireland

It was a bit of a special evening on Monday…our oldest and possibly most humble member 😜 Pat Fallon, has just published his memoirs and held a book signing session. The book, Nine Pounds and a Suitcase, charts his life from his childhood in a Dublin orphanage to the present day and is a terrific read and great value at only £9 (or £10 for a signed copy). 😂
Pat was grateful to the many dancers who bought a copy as all proceeds are going to a cause very close to his heart…Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Anyone wanting to buy a book can still do so. Just leave a comment below and Pat will make sure you get your copy!
