1. Importance of Qurbani:

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1493):
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of sacrifice than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgment with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The blood of the sacrifice reaches Allah before it falls to the ground. So sacrifice with an open and happy heart."

— Jami` at-Tirmidhi (Hasan, authenticated by al-Albani)

2. Obligation upon those who can afford:

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA):
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
Whoever has the means to perform a sacrifice but does not do so, let him not approach our place of prayer (on Eid).

— Ibn Majah (3123), classed as Hasan by some scholars like al-Albani

3. Etiquette for those intending to sacrifice:

Narrated by Umm Salamah (RA):
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah, and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain from cutting his hair and nails until he has offered his sacrifice.
