We want you to send in messages - in the form of postcards, letters or pictures - to help keep up the spirits of people who are cut off from normal social contact due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Raphi Bloom, explained,
โWeโve had to take the precaution of closing Heathlands Villageโs doors to visitors to reduce the risk as much as possible of any of our residents contracting the virus.
โMeanwhile, we are continuing to provide support to vulnerable people in the community, many of whom are already socially isolated, and now affected by the temporary closure of Fed community groups plus other cautionary measures being advised to the general population Public Health England.
โMany of those affected are older people without access to smart phones, iPad and so on. They canโt keep in touch via email or FaceTime in the same way as the digital generations.
โTo care for our community, we felt it was vital to put something in place to counter the awful isolation some will be feeling. So, weโre asking people to go back to good old-fashioned methods of communication and send in cheerful, uplifting messages on paper which we will deliver to our residents and those in the community who are cut off.
โWeโre expecting this will capture the imaginations of a lot of younger community members, but weโd be delighted to receive messages from people of all ages.โ
The venture is being supported by both Manchester Maccabi and The BIG Birthday Appeal.
