The Chetham's Concerto Competiton is an annual competition where our young musicians perform a concert from memory to a panel of expert judges. Filip is one of this years winners with his performance of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto! 👏 He will perform with the Chetham's Symphony Orchestra next year as a soloist.

Congratulations to Bowen and Marvin who were also winners, and Nathanial who has been awarded the Buxton Music Society Concerto 🏆

Cellist and longstanding Chetham’s tutor Gillian Thoday believes that it starts with understanding – meeting a student ‘where they are’ and tailoring lessons to the individual.

With over 40 years’ experience in teaching and an illustrious career performing with world-renowned orchestras, Gillian is an inspiration to her students. Alumni successes! 📣 It is always amazing to hear from our alumni and celebrate their achievements. Here are a few of our recent alumni updates:

👉 Alumnus Daniel Harding will join the LA Phil as its Music Director starting in the 2027-28 season, spearheading the LA Phil’s evolving artistic leadership team. Daniel is currently Music Director of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

👉 The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) brought its 74th Annual Music Competition to Wigmore Hall and we're thrilled for flautist and recent Chet’s alumna Sofía Patterson-Gutiérrez who was awarded the 2026 Gold Medal and £15,000.

👉 You can also now watch the new Jack Ryan: Ghost War film on Amazon Prime featuring alumnus Max Beesley, who plays the role of Liam Crown, a former M16 operative who is fighting against the ghost war!

Today marks nine years since the terrible attack on Manchester Arena in 2017. We send our love to those who were affected, and remember the 22 people who lost their lives. We will never forget them 🐝❤️

We are thrilled to share that Chetham’s International Piano Summer School chethamspss has been presented the Legacy Award at this year’s Awards for Piano Music in Education 🎹🌟

This is a new category that was created to honour institutions that have shaped the DNA of music education, and we couldn't be prouder that CIPSS is the first to receive it ❤️

Hosted by Chetham’s within our unique campus, there are opportunities to explore composition, theory, analysis, jazz, improvisation, harpsichord, organ, and piano.

The award was presented to our Head of Keyboard Murray McLachlan and Kathryn Page on 12 May at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. It was a wonderful a night of celebration, reflection, and, of course, exceptional music.

Congratulations to everyone involved. Here’s to many more years of making music together 🫶
