RMT welcomes resounding victory against ticket office closures

RAIL UNION RMT today welcomed the government’s complete withdrawal of its ticket office closure plans in light of passenger watchdog objections as a complete victory.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said that it was a resounding victory for the union’s campaign and a win for passengers, community groups and rail workers alike.

“We are now calling for an urgent summit with the government, train operating companies, disabled and community organisations and passenger groups to agree a different route for the rail network that guarantees the future of our ticket offices and stations staff jobs to delivers a safe, secure and accessible service that puts passengers before profit,” he said.

Huge thanks to all the beautiful acts who supported the Derail the Tories event on 1st Oct - Yemi Bolatiwa, Motormouf, Barbarism., No Rest For The Surfers and Mr Wilson's Second Liners - we couldn't have done it without you. Together with everyone who came down to party with us, bought raffle tickets and donated to support the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) North West branches, we had an awesome night of fun and solidarity in support of each other in our fight for a fairer society.

The battle for a better world for all life on earth needs all of us working together towards that goal. Our aim with all our events is to provide fun spaces of solidarity, from which we can build a diverse community, which spans movements and works together in whatever ways we can - there will be many - for a fairer world for everyone. So THANK YOU to EVERYONE who's gotten involved so far, and if you haven't yet, watch this space for our next event...!

Whilst it's been just over a fortnight since, we still can't get enough of this video, showcasing the spectacular end to the incredible evening that was our Derail the Tories after-party following the protest of the tory conference in Manchester on 1st October. Endless gratitude to all those who came down and made that night as special as it was and helped us raise funds for the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) North West branches. Of course sincere thanks to Mr Wilson's Second Liners for this particular moment and all those absolutely 'avin it on the dancefloor!! Watch this space for more reminiscing of the evening coming soon... and we can't wait til next time!!

The official after-party following the People’s Assembly’s rally against the Tory Party conference, Sun Oct 1st. Band on the Wall, NQ.

A night of live music, comradery and resistance to raise money for local branches of the mighty R.M.T! ✊

As a shower of inept and morally bankrupt scam artists continue to drag us into despair, the least we can do is come together to celebrate who we are and show that we will continue to rise and build collective strength. So together, let's laugh, sing, dance, plot, and raise money for those who are fighting on the front line of the worker’s movement in Britain and stand in solidarity with the workers of the world.
