Wednesday night at The Firbank Pub & Kitchen🍻

I always like to keep these posts honest — not every quiz night is a 10/10 packed-out madness, and tonight I’d probably give us a solid 6/10.

But you know what? It was a really nice, comfortable night.

We had 10 quiz teams, the quiz room was full and there was a good atmosphere, while the other side of the pub had plenty of Leeds fans watching Chelsea vs Leeds in the EFL Cup.

And we finally have some new champions… 👀

🏆 DOUBLE TROUBLE — 157 POINTS

These two are probably two of the most consistent attendees we have. They’re there virtually every Wednesday, although they’re normally more interested in the bingo than actually doing the quiz. 😂

Tonight they decided to play — and tonight was finally their night.

The Professional Alcoholics — 149
Looked strong and held the lead through the second round… then the Nearest Wins question did them absolutely dirty. 😂

Uncle Kenneth — 135
Another solid regular and another good performance. Just wasn’t enough tonight.

Rickipedia — 129
Former champion and, if my memory serves me correctly, once won five weeks on the bounce. Tonight wasn’t his night. It probably felt a bit like being a Leeds fan. 😂

Bert — 107
Consistent. Never quite champion. But we all love Bert — and he won the full house on the bingo, so I don’t think he cared about the quiz by that point.

One Ball And A Diamond — 107
Another week-in, week-out regular. Apparently he’s bringing me a surprise next week involving the words “How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?” 🐶
I’m not sure I want to know.

Team Ryan — 100
New faces tonight! Really nice to meet you and thanks for joining us — hopefully we’ll see you again.

Dynamite — 86
Deck, I’m fairly certain somebody actually gave you an answer tonight and you still got it wrong. 😂

2 Dumb F***s — 64
Second from bottom. Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.

And finally…

As Creative As A Napkin — 60 🥄
Tonight’s staff team. When I asked for their team name, one of them replied:

“Don’t ask me, I’m about as creative as a napkin.”

And just like that, a quiz team was born. 😂

Then congratulations to Lee, who took on Jump the Pumps — 60 seconds behind the bar pouring as many pints as possible, with the slight inconvenience of having to bark like a dog throughout the entire thing. 🐶🍺

And tonight’s enormous bingo fortunes…

Lee & Sam the Chef — £3 each for one line.
Sam — another £6 for two lines.

Try not to let the money change you, lads.

So no, tonight wasn’t the busiest Wednesday we’ve ever had. But the quiz room was full, the other room had the football on, everyone looked comfortable and we had a proper laugh.

Sometimes that’s all you need from a Wednesday night.

Five years can change a lot.

Five years ago, I was carrying over £27,000 in credit card debt.

Three years ago, I moved back to Manchester and back in with my parents. Around that chapter of my life, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and lost my driving licence.

There were definitely moments when I wondered what the future was going to look like.

Fast forward to today…

I’m building a name I’m proud of as DJ Damo, while continuing to grow and evolve my events business into something much bigger than just DJing.

And now I’ve got another goal in my sights.

I’m starting to look seriously at what it would take to submit an application to Manchester City Council to host my own mini festival in Wythenshawe Park.

A proper local event.

🎧 Local DJs
🎸 Local bands and musicians
🎤 Live entertainment
🍔 Local food vendors and businesses
🎪 A main stage and full event production
🎟️ Ticketed entry
❤️ And something created by Wythenshawe, for Wythenshawe.

I’ve held my Personal Licence for a few years now, and over roughly 20 years in entertainment I’ve accumulated a huge amount of experience — DJing, hosting events, working with venues, sound and lighting, licensing, ticketing, promotion and everything that happens behind the scenes.

There’s still a lot for me to learn about putting on an outdoor festival of this scale — council approval, event licensing, safety planning, security, insurance, temporary structures, noise management and all the other pieces that come with doing it properly.

But that’s the exciting part.

Right now, it’s an aspiration and a project I’m beginning to explore, not an event announcement.

I’ve learned not to be embarrassed about saying my goals out loud anymore.

Sometimes you’ve got to put an idea out into the universe and then start figuring out how to make it happen.

Five years ago, the goal was getting out of debt.

Three years ago, the goal was rebuilding my life.

Today, I’m thinking about building a stage in Wythenshawe Park and giving local DJs, bands, musicians and businesses a platform.

Let’s see where the next few years take me. ❤️

Tonight has been one of those simple nights where I’ve realised how much I appreciate the little things.

I went to JD and did the Engine class tonight. I’ll be honest, the gym itself isn’t always my favourite place and there are definitely a few people who can ruin the atmosphere 🔔🔚. but the little community around the classes is completely different. There’s a small group of people in there who I genuinely love seeing, speaking to and training alongside. It’s the people and that atmosphere that keep me enjoying it.

Came home afterwards and my flat is absolutely immaculate. Mum has been here today helping me organise everything, going through drawers, clearing things out and generally getting my life back in order. My tea is currently in the oven and I’m very grateful for her helping me today. ❤️

So now I’m waiting for food, Guardians of the Galaxy is going on, and then I’m getting straight into my new recliner that Mum and Pete bought me…..which, if you’ve been paying attention lately, you’ll know I’m slightly obsessed with 😂

I’ve done extra gigs this week, kept up with the gym and had a lot going on behind the scenes with wedding prep. I’m absolutely exhausted, and for once I genuinely feel like I’ve earned an evening where I do absolutely nothing.

I’ve got pictures, messages and enquiries that I still need to get back to. I haven’t forgotten about anybody and I’ll work my way through everything this week.

But tonight… food, Guardians and that chair.

That’ll do me. ❤️
