Forsyth Music Shop has been at the heart of music in Manchester for over 160 years. Spanning over 5 spacious floors (>15,000 sq ft) in the city centre there is a huge range of instruments and music to choose from and dedicated expert staff to help and advise. There are specialist departments for acoustic pianos (over 150 new and 50 second hand), guitars (over 300 acoustic, electric and classical),

string instruments, wind and brass, folk instruments, digital pianos, sheet music (over 40,000 titles in stock) and classical recordings (CDs and DVDs). Forsyths is also a well respected publishing house specialising in piano teaching and recorder performance music. Hot on the heels of our concert by students of Murray McLachlan last night, we are looking forward to hearing Graham Scott’s students from RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music here at Forsyth Music Shop next Thursday, 25 June.

Join us at 6:30pm to hear six emerging artists present a globe-trotting programme, taking in Liszt and Medtner, the important Slovak composer Eugen Suchoň, “the father of modern music in Hong Kong” Doming Lam, and a new “Nocturne for Chopin” by British jazz pianist and composer Zoe Rahman.

Faith Guitars Neptune Baritone Hi Gloss acoustic guitar needs to be heard to be believed! When you first play it, you notice that an acoustic guitar doesn’t normally sound this deep and dark, this slightly more ominous tone works perfectly for certain types of music and is nigh-on impossible to achieve on a standard acoustic guitar

30 years ago today Manchester was hit by the infamous Manchester IRA bomb - the largest on the UK mainland since the 2nd world war. was in the central blast zone. Our windows were blown out and the wooden floors undulated with the sheer force of the blast. Thankfully no-one was killed that day. We stood together as a city and did our bit to bring back some normality. We were amongst the first shops to reopen in the central blast zone. Thankfully the glaziers had our window measurements from previous mishaps! Then Home Secretary Michael Howard visited our shop praising us for reopening so quickly.

30 years ago today Manchester was hit by the infamous Manchester IRA bomb - the largest on the UK mainland since the 2nd world war. Forsyth Music Shop was in the central blast zone. This Thursday, 18 June, we welcome Murray McLachlan pianist, writer, teacher, adjudicator and five of his gifted young piano students for a showcase recital in our stunning piano showroom, and we'd love to welcome you all too!

Join us at 6:30pm to hear Charlotte Harding, Christopher Hawkins, Frederick Johnston, Lincoln P**n and Luís Ribeiro play a wide-ranging, hour-long programme, from Bach to Yoshimatsu, bookended by Beethoven and Chopin.

The piano trail with manchester jazz festival may have ended but many of the street pianos have remained in place.

4 ex-piano trail pianos, after some tuning and maintenance, were delivered to Manchester Central Convention Complex for the NHS Confed Expo on the 10th and 11th June for an installation called 'Music is Medicine', in place to encourage attendees to stop, play, listen, and share, creating moments of peace during a busy exposition.

Something rather exciting happened last Thursday. The BBC spent the morning filming a music themed episode of 'I Spy, You Spy' for CBeebies in our Instrument Department!

Coinciding with the release of the crime thriller film Tuner, starring Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman, national newspaper the i has published an article about our longtime customer, tuner and friend Howard Gadian.

Unlike the film's leading man, Howard has never been asked to crack a safe, but once, beneath the keys of a customer's piano, he did find a diamond ring!
