This month features an assortment of historical events!

From a general knowledge quiz to raise funds for Malton Museum, to a lecture about Yorkshire in the ‘Dark Ages,’ and Regency dance classes in preparation for Malton Regency weekend, there is plenty to look forward to.

However, we begin with a new walking tour surrounding Charles Dickens tomorrow!

The Regency dance practice will take place at Malton Memorial Hall. More information can be found on the Dance the Past website here: https://www.dancethepast.co.uk/workshops-and-classes

Tickets for other events can be purchased on the Malton Museum website here: https://www.maltonmuseum.co.uk/online-booking/

Did you know Charles Dickens’ younger brother, Alfred, worked as a civil engineer on the construction of railway lines through Malton?

Alfred Lamert Dickens became a civil engineer in the 1840s, working on the development of the York-Scarborough line in 1843 and the Malton-Driffield line, which opened in 1851. He had an office in the Market Place, lived on Greengate, and later at Derwent Cottage on Scarborough Road, close to where the Driffield line was being constructed.

Alfred is just one of the people Charles visited when in Yorkshire. Find out about Dickensian Malton in our town tour next Saturday!

Tickets are available on our website here: https://www.maltonmuseum.co.uk/online-booking/
