Between September 2023 & May 2024 it was an extremely busy time, planning and creating the competition entry for Maidstone Sugarcraft’s branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild at the South East's bi-annual exhibition in Ardingly.
It was my first time organising anything like it, but I had the help and vast experience of the branch committee behind me, to guide and help me through. These are the photos I & my son Harrison took of our Gold Award and overall Trophy Winning 1st place creation, which we are all so very proud of. This is one of many winning displays in the past years for our very talented members. There are a vast array of skills on display, all contributing to our winning score, as well as our overall visual display of the competition theme ‘Sun, Sand & Sea’.
Please look at the table overall and explore the many details, I'm hoping I've added all the photos covering it all, apologies for any duplicates.
For clarity, my contributions were:
*Painting the cliff backdrop
*Covering the boards for the beach and the sea, using sugarpaste and confectioner's glaze
*Beach groynes using sugarpaste
*Helter skelter, made from mathematically measured & cut (by hand) polystyrene dummy cakes to achieve the angle needed, then covered in sugarpaste and decorated with a pastillage slide and roal icing detail & decorations
*Canoe with paddle from pastillage and sugarpaste
*Telescope on the promenade
*Real mini cupcakes with minaure flowers & wired foliage to mimic a flower totem pole
*Pallete knife royal icing wave wall graffiti
*Coco butter painted Surf School plaque
*Lifeguard beach buggy using Rice Krispy Treat covered in sugarpaste
*Steps leading down from the promenade to the beach using Rice Krispy Treat covered in sugarpaste
*Sun by melting isomalt into a handmade mould and decorated with sugarpaste details
*Sea shells & creatures using sugarpaste
*Dog digging in the sand using modelling chocolate
*Many of the pebbles (some by other branch members) using sugarpaste
*Flagpole & clean beach blue flag using sugarpaste and hand painted wafter paper
