With 85 days to go until my own wedding, I thought I’d share a little behind-the-scenes of how I’m using my planner expertise and industry knowledge to plan my own day.
Let’s start with one of the biggest decisions… finding the venue.
Your venue truly sets the tone for the entire wedding day.
For me, the first thing I considered was numbers.We’ve chosen an intimate celebration with 60 guests, which instantly helped narrow down venues that would still feel full of energy without being too large.
Next, I knew I wanted something close to home with beautiful outdoor space. I had a clear vision of a relaxed garden-party vibe, drinks outside, guests mingling, lots of greenery and natural light. But being realistic (hello Welsh weather ☔), having a beautiful indoor setting for Plan B was essential.
Here are 5 things I always recommend couples consider when searching for their venue:
✨ 1. Guest count first
Your numbers will immediately determine which venues work logistically and which spaces will feel right for your celebration.
✨ 2. Indoor + outdoor flow
Even if you dream of an outdoor wedding, always check the wet weather plan and make sure the indoor option still feels special.
✨ 3. Guest experience
Think about how the day flows for guests, ceremony, drinks reception, dinner and dancing. Are the spaces connected and easy to move between?
✨ 4. Exclusive use & privacy
Having the venue to yourselves can completely transform the atmosphere and make the day feel much more personal.
✨ 5. Does it reflect you as a couple?
The best venues don’t just look beautiful, they feel right and reflect your personalities and the style of celebration you’re creating.
This is where working with a planner can really help,we know how to narrow down venues that align with your vision and how they’ll actually work on the day.
If you’re considering Wales, there are some incredible venues I love;
