If so, and if you enjoy great walks, cycling, history (even if a bit gruesome), a fascinating museum, coffee shops and great food, head to the beautiful villages of Eyam and Stony Middleton in Derbyshire
Possessing an infamous history, back in 1665, the Great Plague arrived in Eyam via a linen delivery from London and within 12 months, had killed 260 people - a third of the population
Led by clergyman William Mompesson, the villagers decided to self-isolate, thus preventing the disease spreading to the huge local conurbations of Sheffield and Manchester. One of the earliest examples of quarantine, this selfless act is detailed brilliantly in Eyam Village Museum
Lots of interesting/sobering features around the village, looking very pretty in the autumn sunshine today and just a short drive from Bollington. Highly recommended! 🍂 ☀️
