Seasonal bedding plants add colour throughout the year and our flower shop and gift wrapping service make us a regular port of call for the local community.

This Saturday the 25th we are organising a nature walk along the Middlewood Way accompanied by the ranger Ed Pilkington. The walk starts at Adlington Road car park Bollington at 2.00pm, goes out along the Middlewood Way to Four Lanes End Adlington where refreshments are served before returning to Bollington along the canal. Total distance 5.5 miles. Back for before 5.00pm.

Farewell long hot summer days. we will miss you. As a finale today could not be bettered as we enjoy blue skies and warm sunshine . Tomorrow brings the first day of Autumn with the autumn equinox and although we may have cooler temperatures and misty mornings our gardens can still be full of colour : Flowers,berries and fungi ! The photos : Sorbus thunbergii "Fastigiata", Shaggy Ink cap fungus, Clematis tangutica and Colchicum Waterlily a double flowered autumn crocus.
The nursery is full of flowers and there are lots of bees, wasps,and butterflies on the wing. New additions to our fauna include a resident weasel ,[ nesting in the greenhouse ]and a stoat observed drinking from one of the ponds and hunting mice.

What happened? The sun shone and spring and summer sped by. Long hours watering, seeking shade and serving customers undeterred by the heat and drought. As in 1976 late August has brought cloud and rain producing a second spring as new growth appears in our gardens and in the fields and hedgerows around us. As summer gives way to autumn there is a tinge of melancholy but as the poem says "We have no time to stop and stare" and as in the garden so on the nursery there is more to do than there are hours in the day.The nursery looks different now evergreens, late summer flowers ,bulbs and plants for autumnn displays.
We hope you enjoy the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.

Blue skies ,early frost and a promise of a sunny few days. Hurrah !
Madly potting the remaining bare root stock and getting ready for the summer planting season with thousands of bedding plants about to burst into flower.
We have concluded our compost trial. The good news is that the overall quality is better than last year and that the best of the peat free composts matched the performance of those containing peat. As last year the Clover and SylvaGrow composts gave the best results followed by Jacks Magic and Miracle gro , with plants in Westlands organic peat free compost the laggards.
