As 2025 draws to a close, I’ve been taking some time to reflect on the year just gone.

From projects delivered internationally to events closer to home, this year has been full of variety, challenges and growth, and I’m incredibly grateful for the trust my clients have placed in me throughout.

This year alone, work has taken me over 20,000 miles across 6 countries, delivering 8 major projects over 12 months. I’ve managed budgets ranging from hundreds to hundreds of thousands of pounds, worked with countless vendors, and supported thousands of delegates on-site, and I’m deliberately not trying to calculate the hours involved 🫨😅

Every project has contributed to my ongoing professional development (if you’re not learning every day, you’re doing something wrong).

What I value most, however, are the relationships that continue to strengthen along the way. Working with people who trust you to deliver quality results makes all the difference.

As we head into the Christmas break, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone I’ve worked with this year, clients, vendors and venues alike. I’m really looking forward to what 2026 brings and to opening up some exciting new opportunities.

I know I’ve been pretty quiet on social media this year 😶‍🌫️, but behind the scenes, it’s been the complete opposite! 🤗

2024 has been an incredible whirlwind as I’ve fully leaned into project and event management—and what a journey it’s been! 🌪️

This year took me to 8 events, across 8 different locations in 5 countries. I hopped on 14 flights, spent 48 nights away from home, and worked with clients across industries as diverse as charities, ED&I initiatives, finance, and pharma.

My roles have ranged from Event Manager, contributing to larger teams, to taking the lead as Event and Project Manager, Logistics Project Manager, and On-Site Event Organiser, expanding my scope from continental to global coverage.

With direct clients across 3 continents and collaborations with teams based in 6 of the 7, I’ve had the privilege of navigating time zones, cultures, and industries—all while striving to deliver flexibility, consistency, and the highest-quality service.

Self-employment isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. After 2.5 years of working for myself, this has been my best year yet. Taking the leap to self-employment was scary, but I knew it was the only way to achieve the professional satisfaction I was craving—having control over my career, my clients, and the projects I work on.

Now, as I reflect during some much-needed downtime, I feel so grateful for how far I’ve come. To see the benefits of that leap—and to be in a position where I can carry many of my existing clients into 2025—is such an exciting and humbling feeling.

To everyone I’ve worked with this past year: thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your projects and giving me the opportunity to grow. I look forward to building on those relationships, learning even more, and continuing to deliver successful projects (with a smile on our faces!).

Sometimes, being a freelancer is a really hard job. Sometimes you worry about whether or not you’re going to get the projects to fill your calendar. Sometimes you have to turn down projects you really want to do because you’re too busy. Sometimes, doing it all yourself, often on your own, with no one to lean back on can be a lonely and difficult thing to navigate.

But SOMETIMES… you work with a team that make your heart happy and all the other tricky sometimes worth it.

For the past few months, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of supporting the APEX team with the International Inner Wheel Convention - their 19th international gathering of members and the celebration of 100 years of the organisation (founded in 1924, in Manchester!) and last week, all our hard work, long meetings and hours of analysing spreadsheets and logistical plans came into fruition as we spent a week onsite - a week made up of very long days, lots of steps, not a lot of sleep but a whole heap of happiness.

This was probably my happiest time onsite in a very long time. The client, the delegates and the venue team onsite were an absolute dream and I cannot thank the APEX team enough for bringing me on board, for being so wonderful, so welcoming, so funny, so supportive and for making a full on week more than manageable. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in forever, and I think the post event blues will stick around a little longer than usual.

This is why I love my job. This is why the events industry will have my heart forever. This is one of those moments I can truly say I’m proud of what I do, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my career doing it over and over 🫶🏼

Barcelona, you were a dream! ✨

Last week, I jetted off to the vibrant city to provide on-site Event Management support for a long-term client. 🌍

From pre-event preparation support to a whirlwind 48 hours on the ground, it was a mission to make magic happen at a delegate dinner for our client following their first day supporting their own client onsite at this year's CPHI 👨‍🔬🩺

With a guest list of nearly 200, we handled everything from setup to venue management, supplier liaison, and flawless ex*****on. (And can we just - that day-to-night exterior venue transition? Pure perfection! 😍)

My goal was to ensure our client could focus on their client and the expo stand while I took care of the event intricacies at the evening venue.... The result? A tidal wave of positive feedback and smiles all around! 🌟

SYLOA's first international stint was a success, and I'm thrilled to continue supporting this fantastic client in their upcoming projects. 🤩
