Hey everybody.
This time 5 years ago, Phoenix hit a bit of a crossroads. Increased costs for putting on shows coupled with extortionate costs for venue hire, began to dictate heavily what we were able to do, the one certainty was that we wanted to carry on, it was a huge decision for a society that has always been “musical theatre” to look at doing a play, and I am so glad we did. Following on from the success of “Outside Edge” at the start of last year, we followed it up with “Calendar Girls” and then Abigail’s Party” this year. The society that always did musicals has not only made a good job of 3 successful plays on the bounce, we’ve also also picked up a couple of awards with NODA along the way. We’re delighted that this year Phoenix have again been nominated for awards for Calendar Girls and Abigail’s Party.
I would like to express my thanks to everybody in Phoenix that keeps Phoenix going. Whilst we might not be the biggest armature dramatic society, or have huge bank balances in place, what we do have is a core team of people, some stretching back over 30 years (and then some) who’ve backed this all the way. To get some recognition for doing what we love is the icing on the cake.
We’ve received nominations for.
“First class new director and or MD”
Abigail’s Party
“Best Female Actor in a play” Jude Stacy as
Susan in Abigail’s Party
“Best group of Actors in a play” Sarah Albert and Amy Walker for Chris and Annie in Calendar Girls
“Best group of Actors in a Play” Sarah Albert and Craig Hiepner for Beverley and Lawrence in Abigail’s Party.
Congratulations to everybody who has been nominated, and to all of the other local societies in and around the the NODA district 3 area for all of their nominations.
