Adam Frazer Memorial Show Continues to Honour Valais Pioneer at Lurgan Show

The Adam Frazer Memorial Show once again took centre stage at Lurgan Show, honouring the memory of one of the founding members of the Northern Ireland Valais Club, who sadly passed away in September 2022.

Since Adam’s passing, the Valais Blacknose classes at Lurgan Show have been held in his memory, recognising the enormous contribution he made to establishing and promoting the breed throughout Northern Ireland. Adam’s passion, enthusiasm and dedication helped lay the foundations for the breed’s success in the province, and the continued growth of the Valais community is a lasting tribute to his work.

This year’s show attracted an outstanding entry of more than 105 Valais Blacknose sheep, highlighting the strength of the breed and reflecting the legacy Adam helped create. The large turnout and high standard of sheep on display made for strong competition throughout the day.

Judging duties were undertaken by Robbie Taylor, who faced the difficult task of selecting the top animals from an impressive line-up.

Claiming the Champion title was Diamond Just Like Mama, exhibited by Irene and Geoffrey Gray. Reserve Champion honours went to Cavanalee Mac Mor, exhibited by Emma and Ryan Conway, while First Reserve Champion was awarded to Cavanalee Nero, also exhibited by Emma and Ryan Conway.

A poignant moment of the day came when Adam’s sister, Nicole Frazer, presented the Adam Frazer Memorial Trophy to the overall champion exhibitors, Irene and Geoffrey Gray. The presentation served as a fitting reminder of Adam’s lasting impact on the breed and the many friendships he built within the sheep farming community.

The continued success of the Adam Frazer Memorial Show is a testament to the dedication and vision Adam brought to the Valais Blacknose breed. The exceptional entry numbers and quality of stock exhibited at Lurgan Show demonstrate how the breed continues to flourish, ensuring that Adam’s legacy lives on through future generations of breeders and enthusiasts.
