So you’ve finally decided its time to get married, what next……well THE most important thing to arrange is the legalities of the marriage, but what does the registrar actually do and why do you need one?

Being located in Suffolk, my local registrars are but for each county in the UK you will need to contact your local office.

📜 The Role of a Registrar in UK Weddings
A registrar is a local council official who is legally authorised to carry out marriages and civil partnerships. Their main responsibility is to make your marriage official in the eyes of the law.

✅ What a Registrar Actually Does
* Checks your legal paperwork before the wedding (notice of marriage, ID, etc.).
* Explains the legalities of marriage and ensures you understand your rights and responsibilities.
* Conducts the ceremony using an approved script (with some small personalisation allowed, like readings or music – but no religious content).
* Asks you to repeat legal declarations and vows that are required by law.
* Oversees the signing of the marriage schedule/register and ensures it is correctly completed.
* Registers the marriage so that it is recorded officially.
* Issues your marriage certificate (usually shortly after the wedding).

⚖️ Key Points
* The registrar’s job is about the legal contract of marriage.

Having worked previously with the legend Robbie Gladwell & The Robbie Gladwell Band (for those that don't know, Robbie was guitarist in Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel) & played the iconic guitar solo in (Make Me Smile) Come Up and See Me, so once I heard in a consultation meeting about the significance of this track, I had to ask Robbie to get involved......and he didn't disappoint. 🙏
