Amongst things keeping us amused over the last few weeks is research into the Entertainment scene of 1880s Paris – like you do in this business. Many people are familiar with The Moulin Rouge, thanks to a couple of films, but this particular interest was prompted by Le Chat Noir, an immersive nightclub experience based on a contemporary 1880s venue:which has turned up in London. It may have crossed your social media radar.
Turns out these two locales were just part of an innovative trend towards themed venues in the Montmatre district. Cabaret clubs themed-based on Heaven and Hell were neighbouring establishments: there was one based on the Oriental exoticism of Japan, another specialised in shadow puppetry and, taking things a little far perhaps, one celebrated Death with coffin tables and waiters as undertakers. Watch for this idea to catch on around Halloween!

So in the last episode, (re. early book week enquiries), we'd had a request for Hamnett. Topical and interesting to research.
Turns out all was not what it seemed - when the customer turned up, (and a several minutes into the appointment) he said " Did I say Hamnett (or Hamlet)? I meant Macbeth. So easy to confuse Shakespearian royalty.

So the schools return, and it's the Book Day/Week season. Always difficult to predict characters in demand, especially when the term 'book' is open to interpretation (and 'books' themselves come in a range of media formats). Anyway, slight surprise at one of our first requests – Hamnett costumes. It's for a member of staff rather than a student, but at least it's topical.
