Ready for a late summer highlight! We're looking forward to our August edition of songwriters and musical delights at Jam in a Jar Bar on Weds 26th August:

London outfit Bojockey are the perfect accompaniment to darkening nights. Starting as a band in 2022, the group have already gained recognition from Matt Wilkinson (Apple Music), BBC Radio 1, The Independent and Richard Thompson saying the band "doesn't sound like anyone else".
Having released their self-titled debut album (via Tiny Pocket) in October 2023, they followed the release with sold out shows at Brixton’s Windmill and St Pancras Old Church. The group has developed a special sound: distinctly homely and ambient, high and low.

Joe Wilkes delivers a, brand of fingerstyle guitar wrapped in self-deprecating humour and sharp political storytelling. His fifth album, Hope In My Chest, Fire In My Throat (2026), is both a tribute to folk tradition and a challenge to its comfort zones, a charged mix of traditional material and originals shaped by bereavement, illness, addiction, and survival.

Esme White is a guitar slinger with a love of storytelling who writes haunted songs about a variety of topics, including: ugly angels, death, dust, and the apocalypse. She set sail to the UK from New York a few years ago and whilst in an Irish pub in London she became enamored with the magic of songwriting. Drawing influence from a breadth of music including Odetta, Fiona Apple, Tom Waits, Pixies, C.W. Stoneking, and local characters’ conversations, she has created her first body of music which will be coming out on Cleopatra Records later this year.

Rob Elder is a local guitarist playing a selection of folk guitar instrumentals. His repertoire includes his own arrangements as well as Alex de Grassi, John Renbourn, Pat Metheny, and Davey Graham.

Daisy Chute:
Daisy Chute has found a loyal following through her Grammy award-winning songwriting and jaw-dropping vocals. Selling out shows internationally at arts venues/festivals like Glastonbury, Daisy and her original folk/americana music and singing feature on Radio/TV/Film/Game soundtracks, and she is co-writer for a new musical about witches ‘Coven’ which premiered to sold out London audiences in 2025/26.

Jessica’s Brother:
They won the End of the Road’s festival, 'Play End Of The Road' competition. Jessica’s Brother are a London trio comprised of songwriter Tom Charleston, Jonny Helm (drums, also of The Wave Pictures) and Charlie Higgs (bass). Channelling the spirit of the Brothers Grimm to create an otherworldly atmosphere, they weave their motley influences together making a rich and eclectic vision, with nods to Silver Jews, Jason Molina, Nick Cave, Richard Thompson and Neil Young. There are themes of joy, anger and silliness in a carefully crafted world with a colourful cast of characters.

Alice Beadle:
Alice is a violinist and folk musician based in London. She is a founding member of folk ensemble Goblin Band, Described by Martin Carthy as “The band we’ve been waiting for”. Goblin Band have toured around the uk, playing at venues such as Cecil Sharpe house and Sidmouth Folk Festival. She is also a part of, The Beadling, an English folk trio who blend traditional music and original composition, focusing on dynamic storytelling and uplifting voices that are often overlooked. She is interested in taking a socially oriented approach to folk music, looking at folk as a historical perspective and window to the past.

The New Leaves:
The New Leaves are an Irish folk-rock band blending rich harmonies, evocative storytelling, and Americana influences with deep literary and cultural roots. Their music captures the spirit of modern Ireland while drawing inspiration from timeless folk traditions, creating songs that feel both intimate and expansive.

Performing on Weds 22 July at Folk in the Jar!
Sonny Brazil is a Folk singer and Squeeze Box Player from the south east of England.

Sonny’s unique style of folk performance stems from the Q***r Folk scene in My South London. They make a point of exploring different voices in these folk songs that were largely collected under the heavy colonial blanket of the Victorian era and early 20th century.
In keeping folk music alive and viewing it through a q***r, anti colonial, anti capitalist lens, Sonny does their bit to carry on the living tradition in a way that sparks new energy into the old songs.

At Jam in a Jar. £10 donations. Doors open 7pm.
