Very few people see what really goes into the world’s most extraordinary celebrations.

The band we discovered in Florence. The restaurant no one knows about in St. Barts, the flowers obsessed over for weeks. The decisions made long before a single guest arrives that make all the difference to the day when they do.

For seventeen years we have kept most of it quietly to ourselves. Today, just a little of that changes.

We’re launching the Albion Journal, and you are among the very first to know. A glimpse behind the scenes of some of the most flawlessly fun weddings and celebrations in the world. The stories, the suppliers, the places and the details that make us who we are.

You are part of this world. This is our way of sharing a little more of it with you.

As we settle into Autumn, it’s so rewarding to look back at an incredible summer, that took us across the globe.

As always huge thanks to our brilliant team, and to the talented photographers, florists, musicians, chefs, designers, artists and production houses we work with, and whose attention to detail and collaboration we value so much.

A little autumnal floral inspiration, and a reluctant acknowledgement that this glorious summer is not entirely permanent.

We may feel firmly still in summer mode, but winter party planning is already in full swing.

Dahlias, Cosmos, Zinnias, Anemones and Chrysanthemums in burnt orange, chocolate, dusty rose and soft bronze bring richness without being heavy.

Warmth and colour, without predictability.

This week we’re in Newport, Rhode Island, preparing for an incredible celebration and learning all about America’s Gilded Age, in all its extraordinary, unapologetic glory. This is Bellevue Avenue, and the mansions the Newport Preservation Society saved, known, with magnificent understatement, as “cottages”.

This first house was built by Cornelius and Alva Vanderbilt in 1892, out of what was perhaps the greatest architectural rivalry in American history, between Alva and her sister-in-law Alice, who build The Breakers, just along the avenue.

Known as The Marble House, Alva shipped in marble from Italy to keep her cool during the few weeks a year they summered here. The interiors absolutely stop you in your tracks, even now.

This is The Breakers, Alice’s cottage, which is so enormous the photos don’t do it justice, and which is undergoing extensive work now.

This is the famous Cliff Walk, from which you can see all these mansions in their glory, overlooking the sea.

What makes Newport endlessly fascinating is that the story hasn’t ended.

The mansions are being preserved and lived in today by a new generation, Larry Ellison, Steve Schwarzman, are, among others, pouring money into these extraordinary houses, ensuring they survive for generations to come.

In doing so the residents immortalise their names in American history, just as the Vanderbilts did 130 years before them.

New money versus old money. The desire to build something magnificent, to be remembered, and leave a mark.

Nothing says summer like a kaleidoscope of colour.

With menus and place cards by Fin Fellows, and florals by Wayne Riley that answered the brief perfectly, this St.Tropez celebration by the sea stood out for all the right reasons.

There’s a lovely thread running through the bridal trends we’re seeing this season that feels very Albion.

Greater personalisation, intimacy in design and a movement towards full immersion over pure aesthetics. Braver, more joyful ceremonies, designed to be the emotional anchor of the whole celebration, not just the formality before the fun.

Gowns with overskirts, detachable sleeves and toppers allowing brides to transform without changing completely.

Blush, ch*****ne and bolder colour, with a move towards vintage romance; favouring the layering of fabrics over embellishment, adding depth and texture.

An attention to detail and flow that we love to see!

A stunning recent wedding at One Marylebone, where the ceremony moved from sombre to dancing in the aisles with a surprise gospel choir, and All You Need Is Love.

Peacocks, a London bus, the most beautiful green and white florals by Lavender Green, and incredible food by Rocket Food.

London at its most quietly, completely perfect.
