The current Wedding Law consultation is an exciting and much needed opportunity to change an outdated practice, and everyone can have their say. Yes, you too!

At its heart it moves licensing the venue to licensing the officiant. This means greater choice of where you want to get married and allows for your genders, cultures, languages, and beliefs to be reflected in a way that is meaningful to you.

This is why the Wedding Law Reform is particularly relevant to fusion couples.

If responding to the full consultation feels too daunting (I feel you!), you can focus on these three chapters:

⚡️ Chapter 4: Ceremony content and consent
⚡️ Chapter 5: Location: where the ceremony takes place
⚡️ Chapter 6: The role of independent celebrants

And if you’re really short of time, just focus on one question, no. 27: “Do you agree with allowing independent officiants to conduct legally binding weddings?”

Major news for anyone planning a wedding in England & Wales! 🥂✨

For years, multicultural, bilingual, and fusion couples have had to compromise, often having to host two separate ceremonies just to make their marriage legal and culturally meaningful.

The Ministry of Justice has launched the landmark ‘Tying the Knot’ consultation on reforming wedding laws.

The proposed shift to an officiant-based system means total flexibility on venues, language, and cultural/religious elements!

🗓️ The public consultation closes on 24 September 2026. Make sure your voice is heard so future weddings reflect modern, diverse couples.

It was such a joy to tell Ella and Tim’s story at the enchanting earlier this year.

It was a heartfelt ceremony full of laughter, and a true celebration of the coming together of their cultures. A marriage where quintessential English charm meets the warmth and spirit of Filipino tradition.

The ceremony included top notch performances of beloved dogs Vinnie and Daisy as Best Dogs, hymns, biblical and secular readings, Filipino wedding rituals and handwritten vows.

Ever wondered why we wear wedding rings, and why they’re traditionally are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand?

Here are some fun facts.

It all started in Ancient Egypt, 3000 BCE. The very first rings were woven from h**p and reeds. The circle represented eternity, and the open center was seen as a gateway to an unknown future together. Gorgeous, right?

Then came the Romans (800 BCE - 400 CE). They traded grass for iron to symbolise strength and permanence. They also popularised the ‘Vein of Love’ (Vena Amoris) myth, believing a vein ran directly from the fourth finger of the left hand straight to the heart. Romantic!

In Renaissance Europe (1500s), couples wore gimmal rings: interlocking metal bands that fit together like puzzle pieces. Each person of the couple would each wear a piece during the engagement, then lock them together on the wedding day. Quirky!

If you are a bilingual or multilingual couple, this post is for you!

The language of love is universal, but nothing is more special and moving than framing your vows in your mother tongue.

Here are 5 tips to include and celebrate your languages:

1. Choose one lead language and offer summaries in the other language(s). A friend or interpreter can help, or a bilingual celebrant. In this way, you keep a nice flow whilst everyone is included. You can offer full translations for people to read during or after the ceremony. This will also be a precious keepsake.

2. Include readings in your languages. You can ask a family member or friend to read, it’s a wonderful way to include them.

3. Choose songs in your languages and introduce your guests to the music of your culture too.

4. Ask everyone to greet each other in your languages. It’s a fun way to include everyone and they’ll learn some new language skills.

5. Share your vows in your mother tongues. It’s a heartfelt way to show your love for each other’s languages and blend your cultural backgrounds.

Yes, you can! 🎉

I’ve recently collaborated with some wonderful registrars to create seamless, deeply meaningful experiences for couples and their guests.

Here is how we made it happen:

💞 I welcomed the guests, introduced both myself and the registrar, and gave everyone a quick roadmap of how the ceremony would flow.

💞 The registrar took over for the processional and conducted the legal vows, concluding with the signing of the register.

💞 After a brief musical interlude, I stepped back in to lead a bespoke ceremony crafted entirely around the couple’s unique cultures, languages, and values.

It’s the ultimate ‘best of both worlds’ scenario.

However, if you’re planning your big day in England or Wales, here are 3 things to keep in mind:

1️⃣ Not all registrars are comfortable sharing the space. I’ve had occasions where they required the legalities to happen in a separate room before or after the bespoke ceremony.

2️⃣ Registrars can only operate in legally licensed venues. As a celebrant, I can marry you anywhere (woodlands, beaches, mountain tops, hot air balloons, your back garden, you name it).

3️⃣ Having a registrar come to an alternative licensed venue can be pricey. If you’re on a budget, you can opt for a statutory register office marriage (around £62–£87) and save the big celebratory ceremony for a different day/venue with me!

Standard disclaimer: This is the current law for England & Wales. We are keeping our fingers tightly crossed for Marriage Law Reform soon, which will hopefully allow celebrants to conduct the legal acts, too!

Yesterday’s wedding was a beautiful blend of Ukrainian, Scottish, German and English traditions.

This is a detail of the Rushnyk, a ceremonial cloth used in Ukrainian wedding traditions.

During the ceremony, the couple steps on the Rushnyk, symbolising their connection with ancestors as well as a future promise of a long, happy and prosperous life together.

Yesterday’s couple made sure they stepped on it at the same time to express that they are equal partners in marriage 💞
