I see this all the time. You can book the perfect bouncy castle, soft play, balloons and backdrop individually — but nobody tells you to check whether everything will actually work together on the day.
Before you book, check the venue measurements AND the access. It's no good knowing the equipment fits inside the hall if it can't fit through the doors to get there.

Then check your setup time. If you've booked several suppliers, find out when the venue will let everyone in and how long each supplier actually needs. You don't want balloons being installed in the exact spot the soft play team needs to set up.

Check power requirements too. Inflatables and other electrical equipment need to be planned properly, so tell your suppliers what else will be running at the venue rather than assuming there'll be enough sockets.

And finally, plan the whole room, not each hire item separately. That gorgeous setup still needs space for your tables, chairs, cake area — and most importantly, enough room for the children to actually enjoy the party.

The best-looking parties aren't just pretty. They're planned properly.

I’ve spent years setting up children’s parties and I’ve learnt that a beautiful celebration isn’t about having the most things; it’s about making sure everything works together.

Instead of having to source your soft play from one company, your bouncy castle from another, children’s furniture somewhere else and then find entertainment too, I bring those key elements together.

It means we can look at what you actually need for your celebration, the ages of the children, your venue, your theme and the overall look you want — and build the setup around that.

So rather than spending the weeks before the party juggling different suppliers, deliveries and setup times, you have fewer things to coordinate and more time to actually enjoy planning the celebration.

I wish someone had told me early on that a bargain only feels like one until the morning of the party.

As the owner of J A Bounce and Play, these are three standards I'll never compromise on.

First, ignoring the 4am wake up call where you panic about whether the caterers remembered that specific floor plan you discussed. If you don't trust them to get the layout right while you're asleep, they shouldn't be in your house.

Second, the refusal to look at a pixelated, low quality photo on a website and hope for the best. If the balloons turn up looking nothing like the picture, that £20 saving suddenly feels like a very expensive mistake when you're stood in an empty hall wondering why the room looks so bare.

Finally, I never compromise on the feeling of being a guest at your own party. Sweating over a half-built gazebo while the first guests ring the doorbell is a price no one should pay. I'd rather you had a smaller guest list and a calm mind than a massive crowd and a ruined jumper from kneeling on the floor to untangle cheap fairy lights.

I treat every event with the same care and attention I would expect for my own family, so I know exactly how heavy that mental load can feel when you are trying to do it all yourself.
