The end of an era…

I fell into the Events Industry by accident. A friend of my brother’s told him that he was looking for a PA and my brother said he should speak to me because I was job hunting. It was 1997 and that friend was Tim Gasson, the MD of Absolute Corporate Events Ltd, a small hotel booking agency on the cusp of a rapid expansion into full event management services and future success.

I was at ACE for ten years, spent another twelve years in partnership with James as Adam Baker Event Logistics (ABEL2), and have been on my own trading as LBxLogistics since 2019. I travelled extensively, worked crazy hours, had countless incredible experiences and met many, many fabulous people.

But Covid forever changed everything.

I have loved the Events Industry with a passion and miss every element of the vibrant and amazing world in which I worked, but that was then and this is now. Priorities change, and after threatening to do it for years, I am finally hanging up my hat!

Have just finished setting up a new laptop in preparation for a busy couple of months ahead.
To be fair to my Microsoft Surface it has done really well, but it must be nearly ten years old now and every time Windows issues an update something else stops working - I couldn't risk it conking out on me before June!

For those suppliers who are not already aware, since the devastating effect of the Covid pandemic and lockdowns on our industry, I have only returned to Events on a part time basis, having taken on other responsibilities in the interim which I was reluctant to give up.

I ensure my availability for planned event project dates agreed in advance with my clients, but between projects when there is nothing specific in my event diary then I am quite often unavailable due to other commitments, in particular on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays when I co-ordinate an outpatients’ clinic at my local hospital!

Lovely to catch up with some of my former colleagues from Absolute Corporate Events, many of whom I had not seen for over fifteen years! We met up for dinner with our partners at The Northey Arms in Box, who now offer Station House (the original company's main office) as their annex accommodation. Great evening and lots of happy memories!

The Welcome Ambassadors (with whom I volunteer) were invited to support the organisers with queue management at the recent Michael Bublé concert in Bath. Fantastic performance by a superb showman, his band and singers, and the production values were excellent; it was a great experience to be a part of.

This was a hot one ... we were more popular than the beer tents!
