Our next night is on 4th of Feb and we have a cornucopia of
musical delights indie, folk, acoustic together with a dollop ofdisco decadence - yes - seeing as it’s the first show of the NewYear we thought we needed to add a little disco joy - so wearsomething sparkly and let’s banish the blustery chill from a wintrynight. The talent on show on these nights always blows us away!
Welcoming Laura Reznek!
Laura Reznek has never liked to talk about herself. If you listenclosely to her music, however, you’ll hear murmurs of nakeddisclosure — fragments of grief, anger, and complicated joy
riddled through her melodies. In her new micro EP Leap Year(Birthday Cake Records), Laura wrestles with time during whicheverything and nothing happens, and the betrayal of boredom inthe midst of life-changing loss. Laura layers meticulousarrangements with found sounds, crafting plush sonic texturesthat occasionally bristle with something darker.
Laura’s musical practice is rooted in interdisciplinary collaborationand a stubborn DIY aesthetic. While her favourite venues she’sever played include a laundromat, bell tower, and leaky boat, hermusic has also been heard on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1,BBC Radio 6, CBC’s After Dark, charting on the NACC top 20,and in film and television including Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things, received widespread critical acclaim.
Laura’s upcoming projects include the release of her first scoredshort film HIDE (dir. James Alexandrou), radio play/podcastExpectant (dir. Pippa Johnstone), and the debut of hercomposition for contemporary dance piece ‘a hidden
autobiography’' at The National Arts Centre of Canada. In 2024,her first full length contemporary dance show (Agrimony, choreographed by Sophie Dow) which was partially devised at theNational Ballet of Canada, will premiere at Vancouver’sScotiabank Dance Centre and subsequently tour across Canadaand throughout the UK.
