Yesterday, we hosted our Athletics Day at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, giving a group of young people we support the chance to get active, try something new and build their confidence.
Guided by GB athlete Mia McIntosh Mia McIntosh , the young people took on the hurdles and high jump, before joining an exclusive Q&A with Olympians, Desirèe Henry Desirèe Henry OLY and Alex Haydock-Wilson Alex Haydock-Wilson . They shared their experiences – the highs and lows of reaching the highest level in sport – as well as advice and encouragement on getting back into physical activity.
For many young people living with, and beyond cancer, getting back into physical activity can feel challenging. Treatment can have lasting effects on confidence, strength and energy, and it can take time to feel comfortable being active again.💪
That’s why creating opportunities like this at Teens Unite is so important. They give young people the space to try things at their own pace, and rebuild their confidence alongside others who understand💚💜
A huge thank you to Lee Valley for helping us make the day possible by providing such a fantastic space and to everyone who helped make the day possible. A BIG thank you to Mia, Desiree and Alex for giving their time, sharing their experiences and inspiring the young people. We’re so grateful for your support!🫶
Missed out on our Athletics Day? Don’t worry!
We’re excited to be hosting a Gym Takeover next month, giving you the chance to get active, try something new and build confidence at your own pace. With guidance from experienced personal trainers, you’ll learn simple techniques and try a range of exercises in a supportive space.🌟
