LIVISOC AND JMU ISOC PRESENTS
'THE ILLUMINATOR OF DREAMS' - A ONE DAY INTENSIVE COURSE EXPLORING THE STORY OF THE PROPHET YUSUF (AS)
Allah (SWT) says in the Quran 'We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur'an although you were, before it, among the unaware' (12:3)
It is an essential part of a Muslim’s faith to believe in all the Prophets of Allah who were sent for the guidance of mankind since the beginning of time, from Adam (AS) to Muhammad (SAW). The Prophets were sent by Allah (SWT) to cure the spiritual ailments of mankind and restore their moral health. They were men, gentle and virtuous in character, who preached the word of God in different times to various peoples throughout the world. Whatever moral rectitude and righteousness, purity and chastity the world possesses today is their legacy, and in following their footsteps lies the salvation and well-being of humanity. Any trace of virtue and goodness found in the world today is due to their effort, and it for this reason that we are indebted to these men of God rather than to any other class or group of persons.
In the Quran, Allah (SWT) has described the events in the lives of twenty seven Prophets (AS). Allah (SWT) says 'In their stories, there is indeed a lesson for men of understanding' (12:111). The aim of Allah (SWT) in describing these stories is not to simply relate historical events, but to provide moral lessons and advice for all of humankind. World history and past experiences teach human beings innumerable lessons in all aspects of life. There are treasures of knowledge in these narrations, and every verse of the Quran provides guidance to mankind in countless issues. One such narration is the Story of Prophet Yusuf (AS), which has been beautifully and uniquely described with continuity and order by Allah (SWT) in Surat-ul-Yusuf. The Surah describes how Yusuf (AS) was thrown into a well by his older brothers, sold into servitude, imprisoned, and after persevering through such hardships, was dignified and honored with a governmental position. There are many themes and lessons in this chapter of the Quran, but there are two which appear particularly relevant to the time and place in which we live: resisting temptations, and da’wa, which is inviting people towards the message of Islam.
