SAVE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE — URGENT UPDATE

Things have moved quickly with the Save International House campaign.

The planning application for International House and Pop Brixton has now been referred to the Mayor of London, and there is a very short window for people to submit comments directly to the GLA.

Please submit a comment on the planning application today.

You don't need to write an essay. In your own words, explain why International House, affordable community space in Brixton and the organisations based here are worth protecting.

There will also be a Save International House rally outside City Hall tomorrow, Monday 5 October at 12pm.

Grooveschool has been based at International House since 2019. From our studio here we've delivered weekly youth sessions, DJing, music production, podcasting, creative mentoring, SEND and neurodivergent provision, internships, community projects and pathways into the creative industries.

If we lose International House, we don't simply lose a room. We risk losing part of the community infrastructure that allows this work to happen.

A final push for Save International House 🙏

Around 800 more signatures are needed by close on Wednesday.

International House has become home to an incredible community of charities, social enterprises and creative organisations in Brixton, including Grooveschool.

We’re heading into the final week of Grooveschool’s Create Your Future summer programme in Brixton, running Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday this week.

We’ve still got a small number of spaces available – and you don’t need to have attended the previous weeks to get involved.

Next up from the Grooveschool studio is Louie Snacks — South London DJ and one of the founding members of Culture Cuts Collective.

Spinning eclectic selections since 2010, Louie has taken his sounds through Omni-Jam nights, skate film festivals, Cosmic Betwixt Cabarets, Movimientos Tropical guest spots and his weekly Blues Kitchen residency.

From 4 August we’ll be welcoming a new group of young people into the studio for our Creative Industries Programme, delivered through Lambeth Made: Create Your Future.

Four weeks of DJing, music production, podcasting, photography, video production and digital content creation, alongside creative mentoring and real studio experience.

We can’t wait to get started and share the journey with you.

This summer, Grooveschool is opening its doors for a FREE four-week Creative Industries Programme, delivered in partnership with Lambeth Made: Create Your Future.

If you're a young person interested in music, media or digital creativity, this is your opportunity to work alongside Creative Mentors in professional studios, gain hands-on experience and create work you're proud of.

You'll have the opportunity to explore:

🎙 Podcasting
📸 Photography
🎥 Video Production
🎬 Digital Content Creation

Along the way you'll build creative, digital and employability skills, develop a portfolio of work and, if you'd like to, have the opportunity to work towards recognised accreditation.

✅ Not currently in education, employment or training (NEET)

We're delighted to announce that Grooveschool has been awarded funding through Lambeth Made to deliver Create Your Future 2026 – a brand new Creative Industries Summer Programme.

This four-week programme will give young people the opportunity to develop practical skills in:

🎧 DJing
🎵 Music Production
🎙️ Podcasting
📹 Content Creation
🤝 Working alongside creative professionals
🎓 Accredited learning and progression opportunities

Rather than learning in a traditional classroom, participants will work in our professional studio spaces, gaining real experience in an active creative environment while building confidence, skills and pathways into education, employment and the creative industries.

A quick Grooveschool update.

As the charity continues to grow, we're currently looking for a Fundraising & Development Trustee to join our board.

We're looking for someone who can help us strengthen the long-term sustainability of the organisation through fundraising, partnerships, sponsorship and strategic development, helping us continue to support young people and communities through DJing, music production, podcasting and creative mentoring.

The role is voluntary and previous trustee experience isn't essential.
