The term ‘Youthquake’ was coined by British Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland in 1965 to describe a London-centred movement of youth culture including music and fashion. We aim to re-kindle the movement, with Portobello & Golborne at its heart. Now in its fifth year, Love Your Local Market (LYLM) is an international event lasting two weeks (17th -31st May), with three thousand markets around th
e world expected to take part in the largest market event in history. LYLM’s 2017 theme is youth culture, and Portobello & Golborne’s New Youthquake is designed to give opportunities to West London’s young business minds and creative talent. You will have many chances to learn new skills and pioneer new ways of doing things on a market. New businesses and existing traders are invited to get a feel of a lively market environment, and shoppers are encouraged to visit and discover all that their markets have to offer. The New Youthquake is welcoming applications from anyone aged 16-30 i.e. artists, makers, creators, fashionistas, innovators, performers, dancers, musicians and show offs and anyone with a business or brand concept they would like to test on a market scene. The main event will take place during bank holiday weekend 26th-29th May. Although throughout the LYLM fortnight (17th -31st May) Youthquake traders and participants will also have the opportunity to sign up for FREE business and self employment master classes. More details and timetable of workshops will be available in early May, stay updated
