Finally, some real progress in the campaign to allow couples to have a legally-recognised marriage that’s in keeping with their humanist beliefs.

Humanist ceremonies are recognised in law in Scotland and Northern Ireland but not in England or Wales.

We had a humanist wedding 19 years ago because it reflected and represented us then, in our early 20s and now in our 40s. Its values underpinned our wedding and they underpin our marriage. Over a 1000 couples every year have a Humanist Ceremonies wedding because they feel the same, and I’m privileged to be one of the celebrants able to see this. But we also see the frustration and disappointment caused by the nonsensical, non-legal recognition of this momentous life event. This must change.
