💡Fast fact... Horn Fair is a historic English festival, originating in the Medieval era. The Fair was moved to 18th October in the 17th Century. It’s the feast day of St Luke who is symbolised by a winged ox or calf.

This year Horn Fair is celebrating Black History Month and the opening of the African Threads exhibition. There will be African drumming and dance workshops as well as food and other entertainment.

Horn Fair at RGHT Charlton House & Gardens is back this Sunday, 18th October. There is so much on. Swipe the images for a sneak peek at some of our amazing stalls – from crafts and toys to plants (carefully assembled, collected and organised by the brilliant Charlton House garden volunteers), coffee, bubble tea and so much more.

There is entertainment for all the family throughout the day – including soft play for under-5s.

African Threads is a celebration and exploration of some of the rich history of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The exhibition at RGHT Charlton House & Gardens brings together twelve objects or groups of objects from the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust collection alongside the work of local Ghanaian textile artist Lorelle Aboagye.

The exhibition explores the histories, meanings, and journeys of these objects while celebrating the rich cultural heritage and contemporary creativity of African and Afro-Caribbean communities in Greenwich. The exhibition invites visitors to consider not only what these objects are, but also the stories, people, and connections they represent.

There is just over a week to go until the annual RGHT Charlton House & Gardens on Sunday October 18th.

It’s a very special family day out.

There is SO much to see and do. Enjoy stalls offering crafts, food and unique items all day as well as the Greenwich Morris Men and a fancy-dress competition.
There is face painting and a Halloween garden trail 🦇 for children.

This year we are delighted to be celebrating Black History Month and there is an African theme to some of our entertainment plus African drumming workshops and Africa dance workshops. PLUS our African Threads Exhibition will be open. It brings together twelve objects or groups of objects from the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust collection alongside the work of local Ghanaian textile artist Lorelle Aboagye. Lorelle will also be demonstrating her textile craft at Horn Fair.

👻 Think ghost stories are just for Halloween? Think again…

This Christmas, Charlton House and Gardens is getting wonderfully haunted with and a fabulously spooky evening of storytelling. 🕯️👻

With Charlton House steeped in history and reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in the UK, it’s the perfect setting to settle in, listen closely… and perhaps wonder what might be lurking in the shadows.

Join us for tales from three wonderful authors, including H.R. Wakefield and Algernon Blackwood, alongside an original tale from our storyteller.

Things to do in October...

Come to RGHT Charlton House & Gardens - there is so much to do this month, from Halloween celebrations to our new African Threads Exhibition and Horn Fair! Here are a few highlights...

1. Horn Fair – Sunday 18th October
This year we are celebrating Black History month with the launch of our African Threads exhibition – and the celebrations will extend to Horn Fair. Come for food, craft and other stalls, music and so much more.
Free to enter – you don’t need a ticket. (Tickets are available on our website to help us work out numbers).

2. African Threads exhibition - from Sunday 18th October
We are so excited to be able to share some of the African objects from the Royal Greenwich’s Collection. They will be exhibited alongside the work of local Ghanaian textile artist Lorelle Aboagye.

3. Halloween week will kick off with a spooky bat trail – it will run from Monday 26th October – Saturday 31st October.
Suitable for young children. £3 entry fee – payable on the day.

4. Charlton House is one of the UK’s most haunted. And for one day only the friendly ghosts will be joined by Dracula who is in the House on 29th October for three very special family-friendly showings of Bram Stoker’s classic tale.

5. Halloween craft sessions on 30th October are for children aged 5-12. They also include games, spooky storytelling, the bat trail and a fantastic fancy-dress competition.

6. Plus, weekly guided House tours (every Friday at 12 noon) or self-guided tours, Tuesday concerts, Frilly’s Tea Room and our award-winning gardens - all open when the House is open.
