More Madfabulousness... Hallum Cowells as Henry for his remarkable first appearance in the film, wearing a French purple/wine dress with lace and glittery beaded work, which we'll discover belonged to his late mother Blanche, played by the marvellous Siobhán McSweeney.

The dress is inspired by an extant Parisian example made by Madame Laferrière, dated 1882-83, now in the London Museum London Museum and published by Janet Arnold in Patterns of Fashion 2.

I realised I never posted photos of the finished Polonaise made for Musées d'Angers when I saw that lovely painting of a girl in a yellow Polonaise pop up in an excellent recent video by blossom darling | historical costuming.

Detail of the painting 'La famille malheureuse, l'aumône' by Pierre-Alexandre Wille, 1777, Musée des Beaux-arts d'Angers.

Reconstructed gown for a 6 year old girl in golden yellow silk taffeta with striped silk organza flounces and blue plain silk ribbons. Scroll down for an earlier post on the underpinnings.

Based on patterns published in Patterns of Fashion 5 & 6 by TheSchoolofHistoricalDress.

I am now making a smock so we can try to have to have it worn sometime next year.

More of Madfabulous costumes with various legwear that I made for the film.

One pair of trousers in an extravagant pink satin patterned with green motifs for the wonderful Hallum Cowells as Henry Paget.

Two pairs of oriental-inspired trousers for the delightful Ruby Stokes as Lily: harem pants in embroidered silk taffeta and sailors trunks in ivory grosgrain embroidered with gold, worn with a yellow silk sash, the costume she wears on the film poster.

Madfabulous is out on dvd/bluray and online platforms today! It tells the story of the very real and flamboyant 5th Marquess of Anglesey, Henry Paget (1875-1905), played by Hallum Cowells .

I made several costumes for the film, talently designed by Francisco Rodrigues-Weil Francisco Rodriguez-Weil, directed by Celyn Jones, production .

Let's start with one costume that is not featured in the final cut (you can spot it the background though!). A stage costume for the role of Pekoe, based on photos of the real one worn by Paget in his homemade theatre of Plas Newydd NT/YG .

Tunic and coat in ivory and gold brocade, which were then embroidered and lavishly adorned by another team of specialists.

Another one for Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes. This waistcoat had to endure many fight scenes and stunts, including horse riding, and several versions had to be made.

Now that Enola Holmes 3 has been released on Netflix, I can finally post some of the costumes I worked on for the film, here for Millie Bobby Brown.

I lost track of how many of this sailor's blouse and tie I made (somewhere between 8 and 10), as multiples were needed for stunts and different levels of breakdown.

Reconstructed undergarments for the interpretation of a seven year-old girl dressed in a 'Robe à la Polonaise'.
Made in 2025 for the Musée des Beaux-arts d'Angers based on a painting in their collection (see a couple of posts previous).

- stitched stays in natural linen.
- 'bouffante' combining a rump and pocket hoops, inspired by a similar example in the Nordiska Museet, Stockholm.
- underpetticoat in striped linen.

It is, of course, missing a linen shift here, which was not yet made when the photos were taken.

The garments are cut based on extant examples, in period appropriate materials, but are mostly machine-stitched.
