Great to meet and chat with the big boss, Carlo Rivetti, at the Stone Island event at Central Saint Martins last night. He told me I was wearing an amazing vintage piece, which made my evening. We talked about how Massimo Osti came out of the radical Bologna art and political scene in the 1970s, and how this was a big influence on his thinking. It was a fantastic night all round, with Carlo, Paul Harvey and Aitor Throup telling some fantastic — and often very funny — stories about the history of the brand and its unique place in the fashion world. Massive thanks to Carlos from Stone Island for sorting me out with an invite.

Went to the Frida Kahlo preview day at Tate Modern. Opens officially this Thursday. Was a real eye opener for me of her brilliance beyond the image. The exhibition is titled “The making of an icon” and warning that only 30 of the 300 or so paintings are by Frida. The rest are from contemporaries like her husband Diego Rivera and also those who were influenced by her work. There are also lots of incredible photos of her as well as hand painted corsets and traditional Mexican dresses that she wore. I didn’t realise that she was injured in a car accident in her 20’s and had to wear corsets for mobility. Loved the fact that the surrealists contacted her in the 1930s saying they loved her work and she told them she had never heard of them. The first 3-4 rooms are incredible and are worth the visit alone. The later rooms with modern takes on her work are less interesting but overall this a must see and I will definitely visit again.

You can now stream Aaron Trinder's amazing "Free Party: A Folk History" until June 21st. If you haven't seen it yet it's essential viewing whether you were there at the time or just want to know more about the late 80's and 90s outdoor free party and acid house scene in the UK. You get lots of cool extras to watch as part of the rental too. I did a a 3 hour podcast with Aaron talking about his own history as well as the film and I will link that in a comment below too.

The film follows the inception of the movement, a meeting between ravers and the new age travellers during Thatcher's last days in power, and the explosive years that followed, leading up the infamous Castlemorton free festival in 1992 - the largest ever illegal rave, which provoked the drastic chan...
