Guests arrive at 5. At 3pm, this room was completely empty. 🕰️

Come behind the scenes with us at an Anglo-African fusion wedding in the heart of London, where we turned a blank-canvas venue into a warm, welcoming celebration in just 1 hour 45 minutes.

Here’s what went into it:

✨ A floorplan set well before the day, so every table and chair already had its place
✨ Multiple vendors arriving one after another, each knowing exactly where to go
✨ A creative team from the arts who don’t just place things, they compose them
✨ Six missing cushions… and the spares we always bring just in case 😅
✨ Place mats added on the day to give the table depth

But the most important part of the brief was home. A traditional African wedding should feel warm and familiar, so every detail was chosen to remind the couple of where they come from: handmade ceramics and pottery, the plates, the food, the music. Thoughtful, never overdone.

Two cultures. One table. Ready with fifteen minutes to spare. 🤍

If you can plan a wedding, you can plan anything. This season proved it.

Our founder, Rugie, started Mrs Wedding Planner in 2010. This year it became MWP Collective, and here is why.

We began on Park Lane. Two days at the InterContinental with 200 delegates flying in from around the world: room blocks, concierge, menus, lanyards sorted at the last minute, and for the first time, VIP protocol for a vice president. Then three nights at the Four Seasons for a property investment conference, and SHE Boss's annual UK conference.
Then the weddings. An Anglo-African fusion wedding for 55 guests, with clients in South Africa, New York, Zimbabwe and London. A family in Essex we have worked with for years. Our first wedding in Manchester. And three days in Porto: a welcome grill dinner, a private yacht on the Douro, then dinner and a party to finish.

Somewhere between the boardrooms and the dance floors, we realised it is the same job. Different people making decisions. A client who knows what matters. Guests from different cultures who all need to feel at home.

A weekend of rest, designed around the people in it. 🇵🇹
Mixed generations, guests flying in from around the world, and clients based in Scotland. The real work began long before anyone boarded a plane: coordinating across continents and time zones, testing the details in advance, and making sure every decision suited every age at the table.
We chose the destination and the venue, Palácio do Freixo in Porto, then sourced and secured accommodation for every guest. Menus were shaped around the clients' dietary needs, and breakfast was served tableside.
Then the weekend unfolded: a waterside live grill dinner, a yacht cruise along the Douro River, and a six-course dinner in the palace halls, each course paired with the finest Port w**e.
This is cultural intelligence at work: knowing who is in the room and designing every moment around them. 🍷

Wedding weekend in Manchester. It fell in Pride week, and every hotel was fully booked. There is always a way.

Sam and Manu's Sierra Leonean wedding came together with a Manchester and diaspora team: DJ Hopie(was flown in ) on the decks, Dija Tejan in the kitchen, MC K C Isabella Conteh on the mic and Rosa Cakes on the cake. Every one of them outstanding.

The couple chose their team on purpose, so their money stayed with the diaspora community.

Last season we planned an Anglo-African fusion wedding in London for 55 guests, with Sierra Leonean traditions at the heart of it. Every choice was made with the families in mind.
In a Sierra Leonean wedding, the groom comes to the bride's house to collect her. So we found a venue that looks like a house, and the groom and those with him were met by a representative of the bride's family. A young girl in white carried the calabash, which symbolises purity. The kola nut, a sign of welcome, respect and trust across West Africa, stood for the couple's willingness to help heal each other. And the sound of the drums reminded everyone of home.
At the table we used the finest linen, never a cliché fabric tablecloth, and jollof and Krio stew served the way my mother would, with pride, and never touched without a prayer.
These small things are what make a family feel at home. It's the thought that counts.

When two families come from different worlds, who makes sure both feel at home on the day?

This couple is Anglo-African and lives here in the UK. Their families were in South Africa, Zimbabwe and New York. Different time zones, different traditions, and so many people who loved them and wanted the day to feel right.

Behind the scenes, it took careful planning: keeping everyone connected across continents, choosing vendors who understood both cultures, and meeting with the families beforehand so every tradition was explained and respected.

On the day, you could feel it:
drummers who lifted the room at exactly the right moments
a bilingual MC and poet who shared the meaning behind every ritual
a menu that honoured both families on the same plate

No one was a guest at someone else's celebration. It belonged to everyone.
