**SIGN UP FOR DISCUSSION ON GENDERED POVERTY WITH MPS (International Women's Day Walk-in)**
Where: Houses of Parliament, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) room
When: Wednesday 1 March, 4pm-7pm
If gender-based poverty is something you feel deeply about, and you want an opportunity to talk to MPs to discuss such pertinent issues and provide your input to those in charge, this is for you!
This year, ONE launched a campaign called Poverty is Sexist highlighting the need for greater gender equality around the world. Ahead of International Women’s Day, hundreds of ONE supporters in more than a dozen cities around the world will be holding a ‘walk in’ (a twist on the idea of a ‘walk out’ protest). They will be walking in to their elected officials’ offices in Parliaments to lobby on behalf of every girl denied an education.
In the UK, ONE is bringing together young supporters from across the country to the Houses of Parliament to meet with MPs to talk about this issue and give them an opportunity to talk to powerful individuals who could change the lives of millions of girls. Participants will receive training to make sure they have everything they need for their meeting and a member of staff will be on hand to answer any difficult questions.
How can you help?
Participants be able to actively contribute during the discussions and hear from some influential MPs – including Wendy Morton MP, Mhairi Black MP and Ivan Lewis MP. As such, they will have the opportunity to directly influence those in charge. As part of the campaign, participants will also write letters to the MPs of their constituency (you do not need to be a UK citizen!), and draft letters by ONE will be provided.
There are limited places, so sign up soon! If you are interested, please send an email to Mock Yi Jun at [email protected] and Charmaine Low at [email protected] by Tuesday, 21 February 2017.
