It was a long but really enjoyable day as the Toastmaster for this year’s RoSPA annual awards night, held at The Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane. That makes it four years in a row for me.

A special shout out to the wonderful Lucy Porter who kept the whole evening together with real charm and enthusiasm, not to mention some killer gags. And we got to chat about her appearances on - my favourite antidote to panel games (I still maintain that Jeremy Hardy was a worse singer than henning wehn).

I’ve noticed that wedding fairs tend to go in annual cycles… the January ones are mostly visited by couple who became engaged at Christmas. No date, no venue, just excitement!

Of course, they have come to gaze at frocks, flowers and shiny things (I mean, who wouldn’t?). Rarely have they considered management of their Big Day when it happens, and are somewhat discombobulated by this strangely dressed person in a red coat, explaining to them how a Toastmaster would make a huge difference.

Still, with my attempts to get that message over, combined with the liberal dispersal of stress balls, I hope I’m getting there! (And , if you need convincing, have a look at what many lovely couples have said about my service on Google reviews.)
