Potters Fields Park

Potters Fields Park Potters Fields Park is a green open space by the Thames next to Tower Bridge. An oasis of lawns and wildlife-friendly gardens, it's also available to hire.

Potters Fields Park lies at the very heart of London, on the south side of the Thames. It has sweeping views of the river, and iconic sights of Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the ‘Gherkin’, the glass dome of City Hall and HMS Belfast. The wide lawns and riverside walks of Potters Fields Park offer one of the few remaining green open spaces along the riverside.

As the nights get darker, we start to reminisce over the summer months that flew by here at Potters Fields and some of the amazing events we had!

🎥 Amazon Studios paid us a visit back in June to film their press junket for the recently-released Heads of State which sees Idris Elba as Prime Minister and John Cena as President of the United States in this new action comedy - out now on Amazon Prime.

See a prime example of the work that goes into the building a set and other productions here on Potters Fields. Thinking of planning an event with us? Look what you could achieve!

🎶 “Round, round baby, round, round” 🎶

International Music Day has come back around, and what better way to remember it than with a little nostalgia post about one of favourite events to come to Potters Fields.......when Sugababes performed on our lawns! Singing some of their popular hits, including Round.

We always enjoy it when a live music activation comes to our park, and it would only be right to also give a shout out to the Big Summer Wind Orchestra who serenaded us on Make Music Day last year with some fantastic classical and popular music when the sun was out!

Potters Fields Park is a great space to hold day festivals and live performances, demonstrated by the talented cast from MJ The Musical who recorded a little number on our park back in August.

So, when you’re planning your next event, think of Potters Fields Park, the perfect place for any performance.

Last month we showcased the Tennessee Coneflower a type of Echinacea, for September the ‘White Swan’ another member of the family is our flower of the month. 🌼

These large daisy-like flowers with domed ginger centres are loved by bees and butterflies, which is why you can see so many of them in the new wetland beds over in St John’s Churchyard.

Favouring full sun and well drained soil, they can still survive temperatures of up to minus 10 degrees, perfect for the all-weather conditions that the British weather likes to throw at us.

To ensure they flower every year (hopefully) it’s best to remove the old flowers after their blooming season. midsummer – September, and make sure they’re in well-drained soil that isn’t too dry.

Coming up this Saturday on September 20th, we have the International Festival of Catalan Culture and Local Community!

Expect performances by the Castellers of London in conjunction with the London Catalan School, both of which are marking their 10th anniversaries in 2025.

To celebrate, Castellers of London are joined by Mannekes de Brussel·les from Belgium and Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls, a top rated colla (team) from the birthplace of castells in the city of Valls, in Catalonia.

Building castells, or human towers, is a Catalan tradition dating back more than 200 years. Colla Joves will be building 8 levels, and London and Brussels will each build 6 levels, with all the groups helping each other and showing what can be achieved when communities come together to build a castell.

Make sure you head to Potters Fields Park from 13:00 to see the beginning of the human tower, with the aim of completing it in two hours!

The afternoon will also include performances from The London Catalan Choir and Bermondsey-based Carragher Academy of Irish Dancing. Presented in association with the Catalan Government’s Delegation to the UK and Ireland and Living Bankside.

For refreshments, our resident ice cream van will be serving hot dogs and drinks, with local coffee shops and restaurants nearby to keep you nourished throughout the afternoon. Or you can bring a picnic to enjoy on the park.

Can you believe it?

Just 100 days to go until Christmas Day!

We’re slowly getting booked up with some exciting brand activations and events for the winter holidays.

Last year, we had Disney’s Mufasa, The Lion King premiere launch hosted right here on our lawns! We enjoyed a stunning performance from South African Cultural Gospel choir and a photo op of the voice actors on ‘Pride Rock’ at Potters Fields.

What’s the best Celebration chocolate? Father and son duo Martin and Roman Kemp revealed that the nation’s choice is Maltesers, which we all already knew!

However, there’s space for some more this year, so drop us an enquiry via the link in our bio to find out more.

It’s National Wildlife Day! 🦆

For a city park we see our fair share of amazing wildlife here at Potters Fields.

We are frequently visited by a dynamic duo of Egyptian Geese. Native to Africa, they favour water conveniently located by some grassland for them to graze. No wonder they come by to see us every so often.

We don’t know for sure if they’re a mating pair, but Egyptian geese are typically monogamous and often stay together for life. Aww.

On the other hand, we have the independent peeping fox who likes to keep a close eye on the gardeners, ensuring they’re hard at work and has a habit of digging his dens in our freshly planted flower beds. 🦊

We recently found a Sycamore Moth Caterpillar in our park, favouring horse-chestnut tree leaves for supper, which we just so happen to have in St John’s Churchyard.

However, there aren’t only caterpillars hidden amongst the green - over 60 species of insects have been recorded on our parks, each playing a very important role in maintaining the park’s biodiversity and particularly enjoying our new planting scheme.

Visit Potters Fields Park to sneak a look at our apiary of bee hives and take as many pictures as you can of any other wildlife you spot in the parks today.

Earlier in the month we showcased our furry feline friends; now, for International Dog Day, it’s time to shine a spotlight on our barking buddies that visit Potters Fields Park.
Most recently we’ve spied the Bermondsey Bulldog, also known as Rathbone, who is anything but camera-shy, lounging on our lawns.
And it would only be right to include Zebedee in our line-up, a lover of ice cream and running across the park. He belonged to our amazing head gardener before sadly passing a few years ago but is still remembered and dearly missed.
There are so many more but although we can’t mention them by name, we can still admire their photogenic natures.
Celebrate your pooches today with a stroll through Potters Fields and don’t forget to tag us in your socials - you might just make it to our next newsletter shoutout!

🌸 To finish the summer series of our flowers of the month, it would only be right to showcase Echinacea tennesseensis or the Tennessee Coneflower as our August flora 🌸

This specific Echinacea is a rare flower with flat, pastel pink petals, sometimes drooping, with hairy leaves.

The Tennessee Coneflower originates from North America, once found in prairies and open, wooded areas, growing up to 2.5 feet tall and 1.5 wide. It’s a great floral to live alongside a Black-Eyed Susan.

It was once considered an endangered species in America but thankfully was delisted back in September 2011.

Registration is free with two routes available – a short 2km route suitable for all ages and wheelchair users. Then there’s the longer 5km, slightly more challenging with a scenic walk further along the Thames and around the city. Not advised for wheelchair users and prams due to the nature of public pathways.

So, sign up for London Memory Walk today!

Raise awareness and funds to provide vital help for those affected by dementia. Share advice, laughter, and support at the London Memory Walk. And when you cross the finish line, celebrate with your medal, knowing you have walked for a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.

It’s Afternoon Tea Week! 🫖

There aren’t many ways to improve the traditional afternoon tea packed with petit sandwiches, scrumptious scones and delicate cakes however we think there might just be one small addition to make it that little better…

With a nice refreshing glass of Pimm’s of course! 🍹

Plotting up on the last weekend of August, Tilly the Teapot from returns for the last of the summer celebrations before Autumn takes over.

So why not see the Summer out with a picnic, in the style of afternoon tea and a Pimm’s in just a few weeks here at Potters Fields Park?

Fruity Lemonades available for little ones and non-drinkers too, so everyone’s covered!

We hope to see you there! 🌞
