How did we end up here? Let’s take a look at our namesake, Augustus De Morgan, one of the most influential mathematicians of the 19th century:

🧠 He was the first Professor of Mathematics at the University of London.
📐 He developed De Morgan’s Laws, a fundamental principle in logic and computer science.
📅 In 1865, he became the first president of the London Mathematical Society!

Fast forward to 1998 🍥 The LMS moved to its new home here at De Morgan House, renaming the building in honour of its first president. When you book your meeting, conference or event with us, you’re actively supporting mathematics through the work of the LMS.

It was a fantastic spot for our recent LMS General Meeting and Hardy Lecture on the 4th! It provided attendees with an ideal space for networking and discussions. VENUE UPDATE!!

We are officially a step-free access venue!🎉

Our Georgian building has a LOT of stairs, which used to mean limited access to our conference suite. However, we're finally excited to announce we now have an external lift installed enabling step-free access from the street to our conference rooms!

As home of the Mathematical Society, all of our conference rooms are fittingly named after mathematicians.

Our smallest room is named after James Joseph Sylvester, the second President of the Society and second recipient of the De Morgan Medal.

He was a student of De Morgan and a lifelong friend of Arthur Cayley, who we also have a room named after! Sylvester and Cayley were co-founders of invariant theory and on his own merit he is mainly known for his contributions to number theory and elliptic functions.
