Leaving a toxic environment for a fresh start sounds brave. What I did not realise was that I was carrying years of exhaustion with me.

I had spent ten years in one community, loyal to it, growing alongside it, until I realised I was shrinking myself just to remain there. When I finally left and secured a high-paying job, I thought it would prove that I was capable.

Instead, I felt judged less on my work and more on whether my personality fit. I delivered, built relationships and managed major projects, but the polished, endlessly capable version of me was becoming impossible to maintain.

The mask that had carried me for years had stopped working.

I was overwhelmed, struggling quietly and still trying to look like I had everything together. What I needed was support, mentorship and someone willing to ask the right questions before deciding I was not a fit.

After failing probation, I finally booked an appointment with my GP. My diagnosis gave me the language for what I had been experiencing and helped me stop blaming myself for everything.

My ability was never the problem.

The problem was being expected to perform ease while struggling in silence.

I am still finding my feet, but I am no longer questioning whether I am capable. I am learning what support, stability and success need to look like for me.

As a woman, a mother to a girl child and an advocate for women achieving their very best it is imperative that we support organisations like to fight for the rights of women to live in a world where they are safe and free to live without the fear of loosing their life or living through injury or trauma!
