On 18th May we loved welcoming pre school kids with their parents and later school age pupils to play and run around our secure space. The children brought good appetites for our free cakes and other goodies, and drank soft drinks.

It was a warm and sunny day, enhanced by the sound of children playing while parents took the opportunity to mingle and chat.

Our fortnightly Wednesday Connect sessions - free entry, games and refreshments - continue over the summer months - check the website for dates.

Policy note - photos with children not used

On 10th May we were delighted to welcome members of the local Nepali community to St George's for a social meeting including a fine lunch brought to us by award winning Panas Restaurant of Lee High Road. We look forward to future visits over the summer.

Our open air film night season - one film in each Summer month - started on Saturday 7th May with No Time To Die - James Bond in action: he had left active service with MI6 and was recruited by the CIA to find a kidnapped scientist, which led to a showdown with a powerful adversary...our audience was shaken and stirred!

We had seating - some brought a blanket, a picnic, and drinks were bought from the cash or card bar. The film (with subtitles) started at dusk (around 8.45 pm).

Next up - Withnail and I on Saturday 18th June.

Following their previous hugely successful performances here at St George's we are delighted to welcome back Heartbreak Productions to bring you an up to date take on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Adapted for today’s reality-tv focused audiences, this outdoor production keeps close enough to the Bard's original to appeal to aficionados, but wraps up the themes of obsessive love and its subterfuges in a Love Island meets Big Brother package. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket (or chair, though we have seating), and dress for the weather. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the island to find out what has become of our couples.

For how to get here and our Conditions of Entry please see our Plan Your Visit page on the St G website.

We pray for Peace in Ukraine - we did so at our St George's Day Service on 24th April and again on Sunday 1st May. We propose to do so on the first Sunday of each month until the guns and missiles and shells are silent.

This is the text of yesterday's Prayer.

St George’s Garrison Church - Prayers for Ukraine 1st May 2022

Ecclesiastes 3

1 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Prayer - God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen

Archbishop Justin Welby Archbishop Stephen Cottrell

Prayer - Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace - The peace of the Lord which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and his son Jesus Christ, and the blessing of the Lord, father son and holy spirit, be with us and the people of Ukraine and remain with us and with them always

The Blessing - The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you
And give you peace
Amen
