There are room rates to compare, meeting-space requirements to clarify and contract terms that can affect the budget long after the venue has been selected. Then come the rooming lists, transportation details, catering decisions and inevitable last-minute changes.

As an experienced corporate event planner and meeting specialist, I understand how these pieces connect.

Your wish list includes three cities, two islands, every restaurant saved on Instagram and one suspiciously ambitious day trip.

Can we fit it all in? Possibly.

Should we? That is where I come in.

I look at travel time, check-in schedules, opening days and the pace you can realistically enjoy. Then I determine what belongs together, what needs more time and what is quietly working against the trip you actually want.

The goal is not to fit the greatest number of places into the itinerary.

It is to create the strongest version of the trip, with enough structure to experience what matters and enough space to enjoy being there.

You will still see and do plenty. You simply will not need a holiday from your holiday.

Your honeymoon does not have to follow the standard formula.

It does not need to involve the same island resort, the same photographs or ten days spent doing very little simply because that is what a honeymoon is “supposed” to look like.

Perhaps romance means waking up in the mountains, driving through a desert or sharing a bottle of w**e somewhere neither of you has visited before. Perhaps you want adventure followed by an excellent hotel. Perhaps you want privacy without feeling confined to a resort.

The point is not to choose the destination everyone associates with honeymoons. It is to choose the experience that feels most like the two of you.

Because romance does not require an overwater bungalow. Unless, of course, you genuinely want one.

Slovenia
Pair the Julian Alps with vineyard-covered hills, Lake Bled and a few nights on the Adriatic coast. It is ideal for couples who want scenery, beautiful food and several distinct experiences without spending half the honeymoon in transit.

Oman
Combine Muscat with the Hajar Mountains, desert nights and time beside the Arabian Sea. Choose this if you want privacy, dramatic landscapes and a sense of discovery with your excellent hotels.

Namibia
For couples who consider sunrise over desert dunes more romantic than rose petals on the bed. Think vast landscapes, intimate lodges, wildlife and stargazing with very little competition from anyone else’s itinerary.

The Azores
Volcanic landscapes, thermal pools, whale watching and Atlantic views without the usual European honeymoon circuit. A particularly good fit if you prefer your romance with hiking boots and a proper spa afterward.

Uruguay
Pair Montevideo with w**e country and the coast for a honeymoon built around long lunches, understated hotels and a slower rhythm. Quietly stylish without trying terribly hard, which is rather the point.

The best honeymoon destination is not the one that appears most often on Instagram. It is the one that reflects how the two of you actually want to spend your time.

Imagine Thanksgiving, but someone else handles the menu, sets the table and does every last dish.

If hosting, grocery shopping and managing the logistics are not how you want to spend the long weekend, consider taking Thanksgiving elsewhere this year.

I will recommend the right hotel, coordinate the details and make sure dinner is a reservation, not a three-day production.

Popped aboard Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady while she was docked in San Francisco during her California Coastal sailing.

She is stylish, decidedly grown-up and just the right amount of cheeky. Rather like a boutique hotel at sea, only with better views and no children asking when the pool opens.

Quite brilliant, indeed.

Croatia tends to surprise people because its beauty is only part of the story.

Ancient walled cities. Islands with distinctly different personalities. Water so clear it hardly looks real. A food and w**e scene that deserves far more attention than it receives.

The experience can be exceptional, but the route needs to be considered carefully.

Ferry schedules, transfer points and seasonal availability all influence how smoothly the trip unfolds. An itinerary that looks sensible on a map may create unnecessary backtracking, rushed connections or too many hotel changes.

Croatia rewards thoughtful structure. The right sequence gives you more time to enjoy each destination and less time managing how to reach the next one.
