In My Coat I Departed...

In my coat I departed
As a sailor in the sun,
With my faithful muse, my immaculate one.
For the mountains I started
In the red, dawning day.
And in a furrow clothed with amber hay
I bathed in a river at the edge of town.
At the top of a majestic down
I found a tavern in a square
And a princess there
Donning a gown.
Amid the laughter and a drunken air
She captured me with her eyes of brown.
Raven black was her scented hair.
And in the sun which gleamed upon the statuary,
An aureole graced this lady fair.
Her name was Mary, and she gave to me
Her hand to kiss, of sanctity.
Her spirit was pure, and of the moon
It was of the boundless miles of the sea.
And we left for the field
Where her potions did yield
An elysian boon
Of ecstasy.

THE COURTYARD

Far beyond the gloom of shadows and graves,
The sun sheds red through the boughs of the lindens.
The ivory billows, and the rosy waves
Weave in from the nearby, tremulous sea.
The marble, alabaster enclaves
Which cradle the likes of you and me
Exalt the fountains of the square and gardens,
Crowning their immaculate majesty.

For just as love does never force,
Yet glows as the nascent evening arrives
Statues gleam, and leaves take their course
Beneath the azure tinted skies.
While moonlit beams they gracefully endorse
Our eternal love, which rising, dives
Into paradise itself which never dies
Like concertos of rapture and an angel's sighs.

AN ANGEL'S SONG

We ventured out in the gray of night,
On amber furrows beneath the linden trees,
Where the breeze caressed your naked knees,
Smooth as a stream, kissed by the moonlight.
The fountains which sobbed in the marble square
Bequeathed to the brisk, aromatic air
A somnolence of grace, repose and song,
As I worshiped your black and braided hair,
Which sighed to the stars, mellifluous and long.
