We often admire embroidery from the front, where every stitch appears certain, ordered and complete. ✨

But turn it over, and another story emerges.

Travelling threads. Quiet knots. Altered paths. Places where the hand paused, reconsidered and began again. 🪡

Perhaps this is where the truest portrait of the maker lives. Not only in the beauty that is revealed, but in everything held beneath it.

Happy World Embroidery Day 🧵

Honoured to be featured in the July 2026 issue of The Embroiderers’ Life by the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW, Australia.✨

The interview shares my embroidery journey and the story behind “Tranquility,” my blackwork piece that won the 2025 Roma Field Competition for Traditional Embroidery. Inspired by Hampton Court Palace, the work brings together memory, architecture and traditional craftsmanship.

A heartfelt thank you to Susan Freeman, Lesley Groombridge, the Guild, my tutors at RSN and my family for their encouragement and support. I hope my journey inspires creativity and self-belief in passion.

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. 🖋️

This feels a little like starting again.
Not from scratch, but from a place that feels more honest to where I am right now.

I’m Priyaguna, a hand embroidery artist and tutor, building Nayam through my work, my classes, and the quiet, in-between moments that often go unseen. Sharing a little more of that here.

Nayam has grown slowly over the years, shaped by practice, patience, and simply showing up every day. I’m still learning, still figuring things out, one stitch at a time. 🧵

If you’re new or been here for a while, thank you for the support and I’m really glad you’re here 🤍

A Mother’s Day to remember… 🧵✨

Today at the National Embroidery Awards 2026 at NEC Birmingham, both my son and I were honoured once again for our work - a moment that feels deeply meaningful as a mother and as an embroidery artist.

🥈 Runner-Up – In Education (Colleges, 6th Form & Apprentice) - Priyaguna Sundararajan Visalakshi
Crimson Gold – Legacy Retold reimagines the Indian peacock motif through English goldwork, connecting heritage with contemporary embroidery.

🏆 Winner – In Education (Schools) - Tharani Vaenthan
The Gentle Giant honours Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhinoceros, using embroidery to reflect on conservation and the fragile future of wildlife.

Hearty Congratulations 🎊 to all the winners and the participants.

Heartfelt thanks to for providing such a wonderful platform for artists and young creators. Thanks to ,@ Madeira and

Deep gratitude as well to the tutors RSN, special mention whose guidance and encouragement continue to shape my journey in hand embroidery.

We are also delighted that these works will be exhibited at from August to October, continuing their journey beyond the competition.

Sometimes the greatest legacy we pass on is simply the love for the stitch.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers nurturing creativity in their children.

I cant end a post without thanking the lovely ladies from PET, for their immense support.

"Pin Kosuvam" in Applique.

A piece that's close to my heart, inspired by the traditional Tamilnadu saree with pleats at the back. Unfortunately, it's becoming rare, mostly confined to villages.

My fantasy is my grandmother rocking this look with an Elizabethan collar on London streets.

Thank you for trusting me that I will pull it off. I learnt a lot from you, thank you so much.
