Seal Cabin is our little Victorian lochside hideaway, built in 1890 and perched on the rocks overlooking Loch Goil. It is peaceful, romantic, private and full of character — the perfect place to switch off, watch the light change over the water, enjoy long walks, and cosy up beside the log fire.

Hidden within our private lochside estate on the Cowal Peninsula, both Seal Cabin and Red Squirrel Cabin offer something very special for couples looking for romance, peace, nature, and time together.

Red Squirrel Cabin is a romantic hideaway with beautiful views across Loch Goil, the surrounding hills and woodland. It is the perfect place to slow down, enjoy woodland walks, wild swimming, great local restaurants, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by nature.

Seal Cabin, dating back to 1890, is perched on the rocks overlooking Loch Goil and has become one of our most loved romantic escapes. Many couples describe it as a special place to switch off, enjoy the views, watch the wildlife, and experience one of Scotland’s most memorable lochside stays.

Whether you are planning an anniversary, birthday, mini-moon, romantic surprise, or even a proposal, we can help make it personal. Champagne, oysters, chocolates, flowers and special touches can all be arranged in advance.

Our Highland Concierge can help plan your private escape — from dinner reservations and scenic drives to local castles, whisky distilleries, country houses and hidden viewpoints across the West Coast of Scotland.

After a quiet few months away from social media, Woodside Lodge is ready to welcome guests back to one of the most magical places on the West Coast of Scotland.

Known by many of our guests as “The Jewel in the Scottish Highlands,” Woodside Lodge is a private lochside estate on the beautiful Cowal Peninsula, offering luxury accommodation, peace, romance, family time, and a truly personal Scottish experience.

We have now released a small number of Summer 2026 dates for direct bookings only in:

Seal Cabin — our romantic couples’ retreat
Red Squirrel Cabin — our romantic couples’ retreat
Red Squirrel Cottage — our family cottage sleeping up to 6 guests

We are also dog friendly — and we genuinely love welcoming dogs to Woodside Lodge. With lochside paths, woodland walks, quiet estate roads, fresh Highland air, and endless places to explore, it is a wonderful place for guests who want to bring their four-legged family members with them.

Every direct booking includes a luxury welcome pack on arrival, and our Highland Concierge can help you plan a truly memorable Scottish experience — from hidden scenic routes and local restaurants to private touring ideas that you will not find in travel guides or on Google.

We can also help arrange collection from the train station or airport, allowing you to arrive, relax, and leave the planning to us.

At Woodside Lodge, couples arrive at 3pm the day before their wedding — often after travelling effortlessly
via Glasgow International Airport or the Caledonian Sleeper from London Euston.

We’ll collect you from the airport or local station in one of our vintage Land Rovers, winding through forest
roads until the loch opens up before you.

No car required. No rushing. No stress.
Just the two of you, the silliness of the Highlands, and a place that feels like it was waiting for you.

Elopement

A new year. A new chapter. And a beautiful way to get married in Scotland.

As the proprietor of Woodside Lodge on Scotland’s West Coast for over 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of organising and hosting weddings. More than 1,500 in total.

In recent years, I made a conscious decision to slow things down and focus on what truly matters: intimate wedding elopements, done beautifully, calmly and properly.

For the past three years, couples from all over the world, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, South Africa and across Europe, have chosen to elope with us at Woodside Lodge.

They trust us to plan and run one of the most important days of their lives, and that trust is something I value deeply.

At Woodside Lodge, we offer two private, exclusive elopement retreats:

- Seal Cabin, perfect for couples seeking total seclusion, and
- Red Squirrel Cabin, offering more space and the option to include a handful of loved ones.

The beauty of elopement weddings is their simplicity.

With just 29 days’ notice, we can legally marry you in Scotland, guiding you through the paperwork, providing witnesses and taking care of every detail. From private chefs and exceptional food, wine and whisky, to flowers, photography, Highland attire, and even welcoming your dog as part of the ceremony.

Once you arrive, you simply relax and enjoy the experience. We’ll take care of the rest.
