Paddington at night just hits different ✨🌿

When the station quietens, the lights glow and our little glasshouse is shining on Platform 1… honestly, it’s magic. There’s something so special about seeing The Secret PlantHouse lit up after dark, surrounded by the buzz of London but feeling calm, green and a bit unreal.

We did a small restock last night (the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind 👀) but the big one is landing at the end of the week, think statement plants, rare finds and those “I need this in my life” pieces you always ask us for.

LLANELLI… WOW. 🤍🌿

It’s 3:30PM and we’ve barely had a second to breathe, the shop has been absolutely RAMMED all day and we are honestly blown away.

From the moment we opened the doors at 12PM, you’ve shown up in force. The love, the energy, the excitement… unreal. Thank you to every single person who’s popped in, queued, chatted, shopped, supported and cheered us on today.

This is just a soft launch and already it feels huge.
No coffee yet (that’s coming VERY soon 👀☕️), but the plants, the Christmas bits, the vibes, you’ve made it something really special.

Introducing one of the most peculiar, elusive gems to ever land at The Secret PlantHouse… the Monkey Orchid (Dracula simia hybrid) has officially arrived, and yes, it looks exactly like a tiny cheeky monkey staring back at you 👀🐒

Only 8 available, and once they’re gone… good luck finding another in the wild.

Why collectors love them:
• Incredibly rare in UK retail, these usually sell out before they even hit shelves
• Naturally grows in cool, misty cloud forests (Ecuador & Peru)
• Produces those iconic “monkey face” blooms that look unreal in person

What a whirlwind of a week… and without a doubt the biggest business milestone we’ve ever hit as a small independent brand.

We’ve officially launched in LONDON PADDINGTON STATION.
Yes, that Paddington.
Smack bang on Platform 1.
You honestly can’t miss us… we’re literally a glasshouse inside one of the busiest stations in the country.

We’re not fully branded and set up to how we have planned it just yet, the final touches are still coming together, but the excitement, the adrenaline, the “is this actually real life?” feeling… I couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Some wild context for you:
Paddington sees over 60 million passengers a year.
It’s one of the main gateways to London.
And our tiny West Wales brand is now casually neighbours with Oliver Bonas, Pret, Café Nero, LUSH, M&S — just to name a few.

That sentence alone still doesn’t feel real to type.

This whole journey is living proof that mindset is everything.
No perfect timing. No perfect setup. Just belief, resilience, sleepless nights, and backing yourself when it would be easier to play small.

And as Kris Jenner would say…
“If somebody says no, you’re talking to the wrong person.”

Keep pushing.
Keep going.
Because if a little plant brand from West Wales can land in the heart of London… you can achieve absolutely anything.

Tephrocactus rossianus is one of those plants that quietly blows your mind the more you learn about it. You look at it and think “cute little desert sculpture”… but here’s the twist: it’s actually part of the Opuntia family. Yep, the same family as prickly pears. It just evolved in a completely different direction.

Instead of flat pads, it grows in rounded, bead-like segments. In its native Argentina, temperatures swing from scorching days to cold nights, so it adapted by storing water in these little spheres. When it’s ready to grow, it simply forms another segment on top, each one slightly different, which is why they get such quirky shapes over time.

A few genuinely interesting things about it:
• The segments naturally detach, not a sign of trouble, it’s the plant’s way of propagating. You can root the fallen pieces easily.
• Strong sunlight brings out a beautiful silvery-blue colour.
• It stays compact for years, making it great for shelves, desks and sunny windowsills.
• Despite looking delicate, it’s incredibly hardy as long as it stays dry in winter.

Care couldn’t be simpler: bright light, a gritty cactus mix, and watering only when the soil is fully dry. It’s a slow, architectural grower that rewards patience with the most mesmerising shapes.

We’ve just added new Tephrocactus rossianus to the site — each one a tiny piece of desert design. If you love plants that feel a bit unusual and beautifully minimal, this one’s worth a look. 🌵✨

The Secret PlantHouse is officially opening our brand-new shop inside London Paddington Station this November – and we’re looking for amazing people to join our team!

If you (or someone you know) loves plants, great customer vibes, gorgeous displays and being part of a growing boutique brand… this could be the perfect role.

We’re recruiting Sales Assistants from mid-November 2025 until 16th February 2026, covering the Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s season. There may also be opportunities to stay on if we extend our Paddington site or move to another London location.

We’re proud to be a Living Wage Employer and offer full training – including plant care, customer experience, and visual merchandising.
