It was a real privilege on Friday to attend the Pride event organised by the incredible Ann Miller McCaffery at HMS Eaglet Naval Base.

Pride is about so much more than a celebration. It’s about visibility, inclusion, respect and ensuring everyone feels they belong, exactly as they are. Seeing the Armed Forces continue to champion diversity and create spaces where people can be themselves is something to be proud of.

A huge thank you to Ann for organising such a fantastic event and to everyone at HMS Eaglet for the warm welcome. It was inspiring to meet so many amazing people, hear their stories and celebrate the strength that comes from embracing our differences.

Shoutout to the talented Deborah Mills-Burns MSyI, for the beautiful peom which she performed on the evening. Exciting times ahead and looking forward to supporting her CIC

Yesterday I popped up to cabbage hall cic to meet Sharon and the fantastic team of volunteers.
What a wonderful community hub! It’s incredible to see so much amazing fresh produce being grown locally and the passion everyone has for bringing people together through food.

Thanks to funding from Halton & St Helens Voluntary and Community Action , I’ll be running free family cookery classes throughout the summer holidays, helping families turn fresh, seasonal ingredients into delicious meals
I can’t wait to get cooking! 🍅🥕🍕💚

Mandela Day Community Litter Pick – 18th July ❤️🌍
At a time when there seems to be so much negativity on social media and increasing racial tension, I wanted to do something positive that brings people together.
Nelson Mandela understood that no single person can solve major challenges alone. He believed that working together was essential for healing a divided nation.
With this in mind, on Mandela Day (18th July) we will be holding a Community Litter Pick, meeting at The Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre at 2:00pm.
From there, we will make our way towards Sefton Street, helping to tidy our local area before returning to the Kuumba at 4:00pm to join and the Walk to the Nelson Mandela Memorial in Princes Park.
And because all good things should end with cake, I’m hoping to organise cakes and brews afterwards ☕🍰 (details to be confirmed!).

Each month, our Veterans NAAFI Break is going to co-hosted by members of the armed forces community, and I’m delighted to announce that this month we’ll be joined by Cletus Salia, MSc, BSc. will be supporting the evening.

Cletus Salia MSc. seamlessly bridges the worlds of military precision, corporate procurement, and luxury entrepreneurship.

A veteran of the British Army, Cletus served for over a decade as a Supply Chain Specialist in the Royal Logistic Corps before transitioning to his current role managing marine contracts for Peel Ports Group.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found House of Cassidy, a Liverpool-born luxury home fragrance brand rooted in eco-friendly sophistication, air purification, and the promotion of self-care.

Deeply committed to giving back, Cletus utilizes his platform to champion fundraising initiatives for military charities, serving as a corporate ambassador for Veterans HQ , the Royal British Legion , Walking With The Wounded, and TOM HARRISON HOUSE

What a fantastic day! 🎉

Last Sunday we served food at the Joseph Lappin Festival with the help of my wonderful volunteers, Ian and Joanne. A huge thank you to them for all their hard work and support. ❤️

Thank you also to everyone who came along and bought food from us. Thanks to your generosity, we raised a whopping £444.50! 🙌🏽

With these extra funds, we’ll be firing up the outdoor pizza oven and hosting a Family Pizza & Games Afternoon during the summer holidays. 🍕🎲☀️

We can’t wait to bring everyone together for another fun community event. Watch this space for more details!

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

This has been right at the top of my bucket list and thank to a generous donation from Julie Lawson-Bem Events, Baytree CIC will be able to host our very first NAAFI Break.

📅 16th July
🕠 5:30pm – 8:30pm
📍 Joseph Lappin Centre

This will be an opportunity to connect with others who have served in the military, share stories, make new friendships, and enjoy a relaxed and welcoming evening together.

For our first event, we’ll be serving a delicious curry night menu, inspired by my Caribbean heritage alongside a Sri Lankan curry recipe that I learned from one of my students. There will also be plenty of brews and my homemade mango lassi to enjoy.

My hope is to make the NAAFI Break a regular monthly event, creating a space where veterans and members of the armed forces community can come together for good food, good conversation, and mutual support.
