"This has not been the season we all wanted or envisaged, but the aim now is to make sure that we end it in a positive manner. And that means Champions League qualification. Nothing else will do.

"We welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield knowing that victory would put us in a strong position to secure that top-five place, and there can be no excuses from any of us.

"It's not the target we had in mind at the start of the season, but it's what we are fighting for now, so we have to deliver, we have to perform and we have to get the three points.

"I hope you all enjoyed last weekend's win over Everton. There is no better feeling than winning a Merseyside derby, and especially away from home and in the manner that we did, scoring so late. It felt good and it felt important.

"We know we haven't given you guys enough to shout about recently, so it was nice to see you all celebrating a big and important victory in the sunshine. Your support, as ever, means the world to each and every one of us, and we always want to repay it with what we do on the pitch.

"I hope you can see how much we are fighting, and how much we want to turn things around. We have suffered a lot of setbacks and disappointments this season, but one thing we must always do is stick together no matter what. If we do that, we will come out the other side stronger."

"Yan Diomande, of RB Leipzig, is thought to be a Liverpool target with sources in Germany telling the ECHO this week that they believe contact with the winger's Roc Nation agency, who he has been with since last year, has already been made.

"The teenager has enjoyed an excellent campaign at Leipzig, with 12 goals and six assists in 29 games to date. According to reports in Germany, those kinds of performances have set the bidding to begin at around €100m (£86m).

"It's unclear if Liverpool have the appetite to spend those kinds of figures once more on individual players, having forked out around £440m last summer - which was described as "three windows in one" - but at 19, Diomande is widely viewed as one of the most exciting teenagers in European football right now."

"I believe Arne Slot should be given leeway for winning the Premier League. It’s not easy, and it’s been a long time. I know they won it under Jurgen Klopp, but it's so difficult. For him to win it last year, I think he's earned some slack. If he were to finish outside the Champions League spots, I'm not sure he would survive that.

"In fact, I'm not sure he survives it anyway because I think the fans are very disgruntled. I've never heard the fans voice so much dissent about their manager in recent years, or possibly ever. They're not accepting him.

"He hasn't got that connection that Jurgen had. Jurgen was very charismatic, an unbelievable character. He immersed himself in the club and the city and did it brilliantly, but he also got results. Even when he wasn't getting results in the early years, they could see progress and an identity.

"I'm not sure we see an identity now. Sometimes when I watch Liverpool, I think I'm quite bored. If it's not exciting me, the people who pay their money every week are probably of a similar opinion.

"It's a big contrast between the 'rock and roll' football that Jurgen had and the more pragmatic, slow build-up, controlled football that Arne Slot prefers. I'm not sure that suits Liverpool, but if it were up to me, I think he has earned the right to have another year."
