Hello,

I don’t really like to mix business with personal life, but I need to be transparent moving forward.

When I initially drafted this to post we had a family emergency regarding one of our autistic children, so I was having to adjust my working hours to be able to care for him while we try to find him a new suitable high school place. This alone involves so many meetings, phone calls, visits and emails it makes your head spin. Anyone with a kid with an EHCP will know exactly what I mean.

That’s still the case but from this week we now have to add in homeschooling our youngest son after months and months of him struggling in his primary setting.

I’m still in the studio working on commissions & running workshops but my days also involve juggling a lot more than just being able to do my job.

So I’m still here (& still in business!) but everything is running at a much slower pace so patience is greatly appreciated, especially when Mike is touring and I’m doing all of this solo.

Those of you who know Mike and I in ‘real life’ are aware of what we are currently going through as a family, and we appreciate all the love & support that you’re giving us.

Things are currently a bit of s**t show, but it’s temporary, and the only way through it is through it. You have got to do whatever you can to make sure your kids are happy so we don’t begrudge a second of it.

We got this.. I think 😂💪🏻🖤

There’s a lot of colour correction for the white bouquets on the bench at the moment at Olive Can Fly HQ.

White flowers don’t stay white and can be coloured corrected using various methods.

I’m using my favourite Pan Pastels on the flowers in the above photo and a little sponge that came with them. I’ve tried using my fingers and eye shadow applicators and this works best for me. I don’t believe in gate keeping so that’s everything I use 😂

Each petal is deconstructed for pressing and then individually coloured corrected by hand.
Petals are then reconstructed to form the whole flower and then ready to be designed for framing.

It’s a LONG process as working with pressed petals means you’re working with very delicate organic materials which can tear very easily and we absolutely do not want that! 💐

Did you know that lots of flowers change colour when pressed? This is a normal part of the flower pressing process and isn’t something to be concerned about.

Vibrant red roses change a deeper burgundy hue, like in the photo above. Swipe for the before 💐

This photo is a throwback to a memorial rose I pressed and framed last year. The difference in colour amazes me, although I was thrown the very first time I pressed rose petals (many years ago) that such a change in shade occurs. I thought I’d screwed it up 😂

We’ve had several memorial commissions come in already this year, we can press single flowers or small bunches and create bespoke frames for them. Get in touch for more info 💐

The first of many mirrors has been finished and listed on the website.

Making stained glass mirrors have been on my to do list for a LONG time so I managed to squeeze in making this in between reconstructing flowers last week.

First week flying solo while Mike is touring America is (almost) done & I am crawling to get to my one and only day off this week which is tomorrow.

It’s been as full on as expected juggling work, the house, 2 ASD kids, multiple school related phone calls / emails, a broken computer, time zones, and a small zoo that includes 2 geriatric huskies - but we’ve got through week 1.
Just about 😂

(Now if this wind could frig off that would be great - it’s already launched my wheelie bins across the driveway. I don’t need anything else occurring 😂)

It’s been a week already and it’s only Thursday!

This was our first proper week of back to work / school / normality after the Christmas break and our NYC trip (which was amazing!) and it’s been a slog. Even when I was lecturing, I always thought that the first week back after Christmas was the hardest and self employment doesn’t change that 😂

Took us a while to get back into the hang of being fully functional again (well, semi functional. Nobody I know adults *that* hard 😂) but we’ve been cracking on this week with work, school runs and prep for Mike’s US tour which starts very soon.

Working my way through all current bouquet preservation commissions and if you’re a current client - I’ll be in touch this week to let you know where you’re up to on the list with a rough completion time🖤💐
