Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum & BookshopHello Parlour friends!

Where has the time gone?? One minute the sun was shining gloriously and now we are well and truly into autumn!

We are putting our garden to bed for the winter - sort of - so we’ve been beavering away doing that. If there are lovely seed heads or grasses, I’ll leave those for when the frost settles on them later in the season. Also we’re having the slabs and gravel updated in front of the Pottering Shed and the Wendy House. It’ll be so much nicer and safer to boot.

I’ve done one lovely installation at the fabulous Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum & Bookshop for the anniversary weekend in September, so I thought I’d share Sam in his meadowscape. I really loved creating this, I hope you like it. I confess when I pop in to the museum, I always think of the Blackadder Georgian series when Baldrick burned the dictionary…. 🤣 simply genius.

As soon as my groundwork has been completed, I’ll share the photos with you. In the meantime, what have you been up to? How are your gardens looking? I’d love to see what you’ve been doing

Jan xx

I’m sat at my kitchen table re-reading all your beautiful messages and, once again, I am completely overwhelmed and humbled by your kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you for asking me to weave flowers into the fabric of your lives.

Flowers have always been and always will be my passion, that will never change. However, I do have other creative pursuits that have been put on the back burner. I have watercolours to paint, crepe paper flowers to make, cakes to bake, jams to make, sewing to do, coffees to drink with my lovely friends, places to visit with the butler, myriad other things. And of course there is our garden. It’s my other passion.

We are friendship gardeners. Whenever there are seeds or seedlings, or we have to split perennials, then we share them… friendship plants. I just can’t throw them away so I’ll be popping in to let you know when I have some that need a home. I am eagerly awaiting my tulip delivery from our Keukenhof visit in spring. I can’t wait to plant and share those with you next year.

Will I still create bouquets and arrangements? Of course I will! How can I not. So you will still occasionally see a few of my flowers and arrangements in and around Fradley and Lichfield. And I’ll still support the local charities that I’ve always supported. For now though, I’ll finish my coffee and reminisce with the butler about all of my lovely customers over the years and then into the garden to make plans for next years planting and landscaping.

Much love and I’ll catch up soon,

Jan and the Butler šŸ’

This is both a difficult, and a well-deserved, announcement. Here we go . . .

I'm hanging up my snips.

After many years of bouquets and workshops, it’s time to retire and enjoy more time with my pals.

Thank you for letting me share in all your special moments—I couldn’t have picked a better bunch of customers!

That doesn’t mean I’m disappearing. If you’re passing by the Parlour, do say hello. You’ll find us in the garden!

With our Thanks

Jan & The Butler

While we wait to leave our ship for our journey home, I’m popping in to say hello. We’ve got a long day traveling ahead.

It’s been a thoughtful and memorable time here in holland and I thought I’d share my favourite moments in photos from Keukenhof Gardens, the RAF Club, the sobering war graves and the trenches.

Thank you to Holland and our river cruise šŸŒ·šŸ’•šŸŒ·x

We are in the lovely medieval town of Ghent today. We’ve already visited Amsterdam with its canals and stunning houses, on and one of its little pancake cafes!
We started our trip in some style though… in the spectacular RAF Club in Piccadilly! I was in 7th heaven! My little dad would have loved to know I’d stayed and dined there.

Our river cruise is lovely - the boat, the food, the people… the fizz!

Tomorrow we visit Ypres. It will be sobering but I really want to go.

In the meantime, of course I have to share some flowers with you! And this is me with my amazing friend off for dinner.
